Northside WINS Eric Nelson Classic! Graham SECOND in 800m! Melto WINS 400m! Williams WINS Long & Triple Jump! Fitzpatrick WINS 110m and 300m Hurdles!

 On Wednesday, March 21, 2012, Northside College Prep Varsity Men traveled to Hanson Stadium in Chicago, Illinois for the 2012 Eric Nelson Track & Field Classic.

 The meet featured Roosevelt, Kelvyn Park, Chicago Bulls Prep, CICS-Ellison, Kenwood Academy, Urban Prep West, Taft, Solorio Academy, and host Northside College Prep.

 The meet also provided each Team with the opportunity to enter nine athletes in every event! The meet was a huge success, and there is currently a 20 Teams waiting list for entry into the 2013 Eric Nelson Track & Field Classic!

 Team Trophies were awarded to the Top 6 Teams. USA Track & Field Plaques were awarded to the top 6 places in the High Jump in honor of Northside Alumni Eric Nelson. USA Track & Field Plaques were also awarded to the top 6 places in the 800m run in honor Northside Alumni Wesley Laytham. USA Track & Field Plaques were also awarded to the top 7 places in the 400m run in honor of Northside IHSA All State athlete Mac Melto. 

 Once a Northside athlete has qualified for the IHSA State Track & Field Championships, an event in the Eric Nelson Track & Field Classic is named after the athlete, beginning the following year. 

 Eric Nelson, Wesley Laytham, and Mac Melto were honored at the meet. Eric Nelson Track & Field Classic, Wesley Laytham 800m run, and Mac Melto 400m run T-shirts were proudly displayed at the entrance way to Hanson Stadium.  

 Hanson Stadium was spectacular, with a seating capacity of 10,000, unlimited Track & Field equipment, and an outstanding sound system, it is one of the best venues in Chicago for Track & Field.

 Miss CHICAGO, Marisa Buccheit, a former Northside Cross Country and Track athlete, sang the National Anthem. She did an amazing job, and received a loud round of applause from everyone in attendance. 

 Northside Alumni legend Patrick O'Connor and Neal Capapas were also honored at the meet. Patrick O'Connor also served as an official timer for the meet, and stayed hours after the meet, helping the coaching staff. Neal Capapas also took photos at the meet.  

 The 2012 Eric Nelson Track & Field Classic provided a very special Track & Field experience for all participants.

 Medals were awarded to the Top 3 athletes in each event. Ribbons were awarded for places fourth through sixth.  

 Goody bags were given to all participants on every team, after they completed their first event of the day. A special thanks to the Williams Family, Perlmutter Family, Agharese Family, and Melto Family for preparing Goody bags for all participants in the 2012 Eric Nelson Track & Field Classic.

 A special thanks to Coach Mark Morgan for serving as Head Timer. A special thanks to Northside Captain Pat Duffy for serving as an official timer. Also, a special thanks to the Weatherly Family, Perlmutter Family, and Graham Family for helping as timers.

 The Team would also like to thank the Perlmutter Family for providing bottled water for the athletes. A special thanks to the Agharese Family for helping distribute the bottled water and goody bags. A special thanks to Craig Williams and Coach Ed Wallace for officiating the Long Jump and Triple Jump. A special thanks to Kenwood Coach Ben H. Ward, and Northside Throws Coach Charles Milbert for officiating the Shot Put and Discus.

 A special thanks to Jose Nebrida, Northside Alumni Eric Nelson, and Philip Nelson for officiating the High Jump.

 The Team would also like to thank Coach David Diaz, Northside athletes Taylor Provax, and Alex Gordon for serving as the official scorers. A special thanks to the Melto, Williams, and Osborne family for distributing the Medals and Awards.  

 Last, a special thanks to IHSA Official Bob Geiger for serving as the official starter. Geiger was outstanding, and is the best starter in Illinois. 

 The meet was scored on the following scale for individual events and relays: 10-8-6-4-2-1.

 The Northside Varsity Men WON the meet with a score of 172 points, and posted victories over: 2. Roosevelt (111 points), 3. Kelvyn Park (83 Points), 4. Chicago Bulls Prep (40 Points), 5. Kenwood Academy (34 Points), 6. CICS-Ellison (31 points), 7. Taft (25 Points), 7. Urban Prep (25 Points), and 9. Solorio Academy (2 points).

 Northside had a record of 8-0 on the day, and now has a season record of 59-14!

 In the Shot Put, Kenwood Academy Senior Philip Martin won it with a throw of 46'5. Philip Martin also recently won the Chicago Public League Indoor Shot Put Title. Roosevelt Junior Jonathan Alvareaz finished in second place with a throw of 38'11. Kenwood Junior Brandon Tribble finished in third place with a throw of 36'11. CICS-Ellison Senior Brandon Johnson finished in fourth place with a throw of 36'5. Roosevelt Senior Sameer Barakat finished in fifth place with a throw of 34'11. Kelvyn Park Junior Fernando Escudero finished in sixth place to complete the scoring with a throw of 34'2. Northside Senior Fabian Lara threw a personal best 33'0. Northside Sophomore Alexander Pilski threw a personal best 32'0. Northside Junior Kapil Garg had an outstanding throw of 31'7. Northside Senior Joseph Smith threw a personal best 31'2. Northside Junior Ify Nduwku had an outstanding throw of 29'7. Northside Freshman Ari Perlmutter had an outstanding throw of 29'6. Northside Sophomore Henry Lothschutz had an outstanding throw of 28'4. Northside Sophomore Walter Johnson-Geis had an outstanding throw of 25'6.

 In the Discus, Kenwood Academy Senior Philip Martin won it with a throw of 113'0. Kenwood Junior Brandon Tribble finished in second place with a throw of 99'9. Northside Sophomore Henry Lothschutz finished in THIRD place with a throw of 95'5. CICS-Ellis Senior Jalen Davis finished in fourth place with a throw of 81'9. Taft Freshman Adam Kwarta finished in fifth place with a throw of 81'8. Northside Junior Ify Nduwku finished in SIXTH place to complete the scoring with a throw of 81'6. Northside Freshman Ari Perlmutter finished in seventh place with a personal best throw of 78'2. Northside Junior Kapil Garg had an outstanding throw of 75'0. Northside Senior Fabian Lara threw a personal best 66'0. Northside Senior Joseph Smith had an outstanding throw of 56'3. Northside Sophomore Alexander Pilski threw a personal best 52'2.

 In the Long Jump, Northside Senior Josh Williams WON it with a jump of 19'4. Josh Williams was awarded a Gold Medal for finishing in first place. Kelvyn Park Senior Carlton Coleman finished in second place with a jump of 19'0. Roosevelt Senior Sayban Menk finished in third place with a jump of 17'7. Northside Sophomore Lucien Fitzpatrick finished in fourth place with a jump of 16'5. Lucien Fitzpatrick was awarded a ribbon for finishing in fourth place. Northside Freshman Matt Osborne finished in fifth place with a jump of 16'5. Matt Osborne was awarded a ribbon for finishing in fifth place. CICS-Ellison Senior Jalen Davis finished in sixth place to complete the scoring with a jump of 15'11. Kelvyn Park Junior Jamal McNeeley jumped 15'9. Kelvyn Park Junior Devan Davis jumped 15'8. Northside Freshman Porter Abbey scratched on three attempts.

 In the Triple Jump, Northside Senior Josh Williams WON it with a jump of 38'11. Josh Williams was awarded a Gold Medal for finishing in first place. Roosevelt Senior Sayban Menk finished in second place with a jump of 38'1. Roosevelt Tristan Irizarry finished in third place with a jump of 33'9. Northside Freshman Porter Abbey finished in fourth place with a personal best jump of 32'4. Porter Abbey was awarded a ribbon for finishing in fourth place. Northside Senior Dan Graham finished in fifth place with a jump of 31'7. Dan Graham was awarded a ribbon for finishing in fifth place. Northside Sophomore Jay Yu finished in sixth place to complete the scoring with a jump of 31'3. Jay Yu was awarded a ribbon for finishing in sixth place. Roosevelt Junior Meet Sharma jumped an outstanding 28'3.

 In the High Jump, Kelvyn Park Senior Carlton Coleman won it with a leap of 5'10. Northside Sophomore Lucien Fitzpatrick finished in second place with a jump of 5'6. Lucien Fitzpatrick was awarded a silver medal, and a USA Track & Field Eric Nelson High Jump plaque for finishing in second place. CICS-Ellison Senior Jalen Davis finished in third place with a jump of 5'4. Davis had no misses through 5'4. Roosevelt Senior Tristan Irizarry finished in fourth place with a jump of 5'4. Tristan Irizarry had one miss through 5'4. Northside Freshman Ari Perlmutter finished in fifth place with an outstanding jump of 5'4. Ari Perlmutter was awarded a ribbon, and a USA Track & Field Eric Nelson High Jump plaque for finishing in fifth place. Ari Perlmutter had two misses through 5'4. Northside Senior Josh Williams finished in sixth place to complete the scoring with a jump of 5'4. Josh Williams was awarded a ribbon, and a USA Track & Field Eric Nelson High Jump plaque for finishing in sixth place. Josh Williams had four total misses through 5'4. Roosevelt Senior Sayban Menk finished in seventh place with a jump of 5'2. Northside Sophomore Walter Johnson-Geis jumped a personal best 5'2. Northside Junior Ify Nuduwku jumped a personal best 5'2. Northside Freshman Porter Abbey jumped an outstanding 5'0. Northside Freshman Matt Osborne jumped a personal best 4'10. CICS-Ellison Junior Terrance Finnley jumped 4'10. Northside Sophomore Joel Deleon, Northside Junior Raymond Siddiqi, and Roosevelt Junior Sharma made three outstanding attempts at the opening height of 4'6.
