Charlie Mesimore DROPS 13 SECONDS and WINS heat one of the 1600m run at IHSA Sectional Championships!

Posted by Jon Gordon on May 18 2011 at 05:00PM PDT

In the 1600m run, Northside Senior Charlie Mesimore dropped 13 seconds (4:57) to WIN the first heat of the 1600m run with a 4:44.05, in only his second time running the 1600m run during the Outdoor Track & Field season! Mesimore overcame many hardships to be able to run Track and give the Team a boost during the final weeks of the outdoor season.

Charlie Mesimore ran the first 400m in 68 seconds, and then ran the next 400m in 73 seconds to take the lead at the 800m mark (2:21), and then ran the next 400m in a NEGATIVE SPLIT of 70 seconds and went through 1200m in 3:31, and then ran the final 400m in 73 seconds for a season best time of 4:44.05.

Charlie Mesimore won his final high school indoor 1600m race at the De La Salle Bank of America Invitational on March 12, 2011, and on Thursday, May 19, 2011 won his final high school outdoor 1600m race at the IHSA Sectional Championships! Mesimore dropped 13 seconds from the City Championships!

Among other honors, Charlie Mesimore holds the school record in the 4x800m Relay, and Distance Medley Relay.

During his Cross Country and Track Career, among other honors, he won (15:37) the prestigious Pat Savage Cross Country Invitational at Niles West High School, and was Sophomore City Champion in the 3200m run his Freshman and Sophomore years. Mesimore was also the Sophomore City Champion in the 1600m run.

The Northside Coaching Staff is most proud of his Junior year. Charlie Mesimore demonstrated more guts and determination than anyone we have ever encountered in the history of the sport. While recovering from a stress fracture in August 2009, Mesimore ran over 100 miles in the swimming pool to complete his summer training goals of 500 miles for the summer. No other athlete ever fought so hard to come back after a medical harship. Charlie Mesimore came out of the pool, against all odds, and helped put the first Varsity Cross Country City Championship banner on the Northside Gym wall.

During his Senior Year, he earned All City Honors in both Cross Country and Track, and qualified for IHSA Sectional Cross Country Championships for the fourth consecutive year. He was also among the Top Seniors at the Midwest Footlocker Cross Country Championships.

Charlie Mesimore also has great character. Charlie Mesimore raised money on his own to travel to Guatemela during the summer, to help out at an Orphanage. Guatemela is among the 10 poorest countries in Latin America. More than half of the population is below the national povery line. Charlie Mesimore also volunteers to help middle school students with home work, and once a week does activities with them. The Northside Coaching staff has nominated Charlie Mesimore for the Patrick J. O'Connor Award. Charlie Mesimore is one of the greatest athletes and individuals in the history of Northside.

Charlie Mesimore will be running for Cornell College Cross Country and Track Teams in Mount Vernon, Iowa in the Fall. The Northside Coaching Staff predicts that he will earn All American honors in college.
