CHICAGO MARIST TRACK AND FIELD

 On Saturday, February 12, 2011, the Northside Sophomore-Freshman Boys Track & Field Team traveled to Bloom High School in Chicago Heights, Illinois for the Lonnell Poole Invitational.

 The Lonnell Poole Invitational included, among others, Bartlett, Bloom High School, Jefferson, Thornton Fractional North, Argo, Hill crest, St. Ignatius, Crete-Monee, Northside College Prep, Shepard, and Orr.

 Bloom High School featured a 150 meters indoor track, complete with a High Jump Pit, Long Jump / Triple Jump Pit, and a Shot Put area.

 The meet was scored on the following point scale: 10-8-6-4-2-1. Medals were awarded to the top 3 athletes or relays in each event. 

 In the High Jump, the only Freshman athlete in the history of Northside College Prep to jump 5'6 (2006) in his very first meet was Northside Alumni legend Eric Nelson. On Saturday, February 12, 2011, Northside Freshman Lucien Fitzpatrick equaled that feat by jumping a personal best of 5'6 to tie for 2nd place overall in the Lonnell Poole Invitational!

 In the Long Jump, Northside Freshman Lucien Fitzpatrick jumped a personal best of 16'8 to place eighth overall. Northside Freshman Walter Johnson-Geis scratched on his first three attempts.

 In the Triple Jump, Northside Freshman Truman Brady jumped a personal best 28'06.50 to place eighth overall. Northside Freshman Jay Yu scratched on his first three attempts.

 In the Shot Put, Northside Sophomore Kapil Garg threw 27'0 to place 12th overall. Northside Freshman Henry Lothschutz threw a personal best 25'02 to place 15th overall. Lothschutz improved by 2'0!

 In the 3200m run, distance runners were required to run 21.3 laps on a 150m indoor track. Northside Freshman Simon Kafka passed Bartlett's Dan Cotton (11:13.44) on the final 400m to WIN the Lonnell Poole 3200m run with an outstanding time of 11:06.63! Simon Kafka ran the first 50m in 8 seconds, and then ran 150 meters splits of 29 (1), 32 (2), 30 (3), 32 (4), 32 (5), 32 (6), 32 (7), 30 (8), 33 (9), 33 (10), 34 (11), 32 (12), 33 (13), 33 (14), 34 (15), 34 (16), 29 (17), 34 (18), 29 (19), 28 (20), and then ran the final 150 meters in 23.63 seconds to WIN the Sophomore-Freshman 3200m run with an outstanding time of 11:06.63! It was also the fastest Indoor 3200m run time by a Freshman athlete in the history of Northside College Prep! Northside Freshman Cesar Rufino finished in fourth place with a personal best time of 11:29.00. Cesar Rufino was later disqualified after the meet for allegedly attempting to pass a runner on the inside on the track. Cesar Rufino ran the first 50m in 8 seconds, and then ran 150 meters splits of 29 (1), 32 (2), 30 (3), 31 (4), 32 (5), 32 (6), 32 (7), 31 (8), 33 (9). 33 (10), 34 (11), 33 (12), 33 (13), 33 (14), 34 (15), 32 (16), 33 (17), 34 (18), 34 (19), 33 (20) and then ran the final 150 meters in 33.00 seconds for a personal best time of 11:29.00!

 In the 55m High Hurldes Pre-lims, Northside Freshman Walter Johnson-Geis qualified for the finals with a personal best time of 9.90.

 In the 55M Dash Pre-lims, Northside Sophomore Nathaniel Agharese ran an outstanding time of 7.26. Northside Freshman Karl Heinz ran a personal best time of 8.08.

 In the 4x800m Relay, the Mustangs had TWO relays score and place in the top 6! Northside 4x800m "A" Relay placed third overall with an oustanding time of 10:32.95. Northside Sophomore Patrick Brennan ran the first leg of the 4x800m relay with a split of 2:32.38, and made a nice exchange to Sophomore Calvin Gang. Calvin Gang ran the second leg of the 4x800m Relay with a split of 2:37.12, and made a nice exchange to Freshman Joel Deleon. Joel Deleon ran the third leg of the 4x800m Relay with a split of 2:35.59, and made a perfect exchange to Freshman Robert Szmurlo. Robert Szmurlo anchored the Mustangs to THIRD place overall with a personal best split of 2:47.86 for a total time of 10:32.95. Patrick Brennan, Calvin Gang, Joel Deleon, and Robert Szmurlo were awarded medals for placing third overall.

 Northside 4x800m "B" Relay placed sixth overall with an outstanding time of 11:14.79. Northside Sophomore Nick Hill ran the first leg of the 4x800m relay with a split of 2:43.00, and made a nice exchange to Freshman Alex Gordon. Freshman Alex Gordon ran a personal best 2:48.61 800m split on the second leg of the relay, and made a nice exchange to Freshman Alec Reinke. Alec Reinke ran a personal best 2:51.39 800m split on the third leg of the relay, and made a perfect exchange to Sophomore Andy Voung. Andy Voung anchored the Mustangs to SIXTH place overall to score vital points for the Mustangs with a 800m split of 2:51.79 for a total time of 11:14.79. 

 In the 55m Hurdles Finals, Freshman Walter Johnson-Geis ran a time of 11.70 to place sixth overall.

 In the 800m run, Northside Sophomore Calvin Gang finished sixth overall with a time of 2:31.00. Northside Sophomore Patrick Brennan finished in eighth overall with a time of 2:33.28.

 In the 4x200m Relay, Northside 4x200m Relay "A" placed tenth overall with a time of 1:58.84. Northside Sophomore Marcus McVane ran the first leg of the relay with a 200m split of 28.07, and made a nice exchange to Sophomore Brandon Licuanan. Brandon Licuanan ran a 200m split of 28.16 on the second leg of the relay, and made a nice exchange to Freshman Sean Conway. Sean Conway ran a 200m split of 32.83 on the third leg of the relay, and made a perfect exchange to Freshman Karl Heinz. Karl Heinz anchored the Mustangs to tenth place overall with a 200m split of 29.78 for a total time of 1:58.84.

 Northside 4x200m Relay "B" placed 14th overall with a time of 2:13.38. Northside Freshman Brian Bauer ran the first leg of the relay with a 200m split of 37.42, and made a nice exchange to Freshman Jay Yu. Jay Yu ran a 200m split of 31.11 on the second leg of relay, and made a nice exchange to Freshman Truman Brady. Truman Brady ran a 200m split of 34.41 on the third leg of relay, and made a perfect exchange to Freshman Walter Johnson-Geis. Walter Johnson-Geis anchored the Mustangs to 14th place overall with a 200m split of 30.44 for a total time of 2:13.38.

 In the 400m run, Northside Sophomore Nathaniel Agharese WON it, with an outstanding time of 58.66. Nathaniel Agharese was awarded a Medal for placing first overall! Northside Freshman Robert Szmurlo ran an outstanding time of 67.64 to place 13th overall.

 In the 1600m run, Northside Freshman Cesar Rufino placed seventh overall with a personal best time of 5:33.62.

 In the 200m Dash, Northside Sophomore Nathaniel Agharese WON it, with an outstanding time of 25.07. Nathaniel Agharese was awarded a Medal for placing first overall! Northside Sophomore Marcus McVane finished in 14th place with a time of 29.22.

 In the 4x400m Relay, Northside 4x400m Relay "A" finished in sixth place overall with an outstanding time of 4:27.01. Freshman Lucien Fitzpatrick ran a 64.34 400m split on the first leg of the 4x400m Relay, and made a nice exchange to Freshman Joel Deleon. Joel Deleon ran a 66.15 400m split on the second leg of the relay, and made a perfect exchange to Sophomore Calvin Gang. Calvin Gang ran a 65.91 400m split on the third leg of the relay, and made a nice exchange to Freshman Karl Heinz. Karl Heinz anchored the Mustangs to sixth place to secure vital points for the Team, with a 70.61 400m split for a total time of 4:27.01.

 Northside 4x400m Relay "B" finished in 11th place with a time of 5:13.56. Northside Freshman Patrick Andrade ran a 83.22 400m split on the first leg of the 4x400m Relay, and made a nice exchange to Sophomore Andy Voung. Andy Voung ran a 67.42 400m split on the second leg of the relay, and made a nice exchange to Freshman David Huang. David Huang ran a 82.99 400m split on the third leg of the relay, and made a nice exchange to Freshman Angelo Perez. Angelo Perez anchored the Mustangs to 11th place with a 79.87 400m split for a total time of 5:13.56.
