First morning Track practice of the 2016 Track Season takes place at the East Bank Club! 400m Time Trial on 1/23!

Posted by Jon Gordon on Jan 17 2016 at 04:00PM PST

Sophomore, Junior, and Senior members of the Northside distance squad commenced the first morning practice of the 2016 season on Monday, January 18 at 6:30 am at the East Bank Club. The East Bank Club features the only 1/4 mile Indoor running Track in Illinois.

Northside distance runners were very impressive in their first practice of the season. Northside Senior Danny Rosen, Junior Kyle Friedler, Junior Brian McManus, Junior Alex Ortiz, and Sophomore Jacob Yosowitz led the Mustangs on an outstanding distance run. The Northside Boys Distance squad, also lapped Northside Head Coach Jon Gordon, among others, during the run. Northside is off to a great start to the season, and is looking forward to the 2016 Class 2A State Track & Field Championships.

The practice was open to the public, and a crowd gathered to watch the Northside Distance squad practice. Two women watching the practice pointed to the Northside Track Team, and said those guys are "professionals". Another said, "I think their Chicago Blackhawks".

Actually, Northside did have one athlete playing hockey on monday morning. Northside Sprints Captain Philip Wdowiak was playing in a Hockey tournament in Minnesota.

Although the East Bank 400m Indoor Track was a great experience, the Northside Track & Field TEAM conducts all of their Indoor Team Time Trials at Alford Indoor Track. The indoor track is located less than a mile from the campus, on the corner of Carmen Ave. and Kedzie ave. The Alford Indoor Track is a two-lane 200 meters Track, with a state of the art mondo surface.

The Mustangs annual King and Queen of the Quarter (400 meters) competition, and King and Queen of the Shot Put Competition, will take place at Alford Indoor Track on Saturday, January 23, 2016, at 7:45 am.

The entire Northside College Prep Track and Field Team will have a 400m Time Trial and have the opportunity to throw the Shot Put on Saturday, January 23, 2016 from 8:00 am - 10:00 am at North Park University Indoor Track & Field Stadium. Athletes will meet with the coaching staff at 7:45 am for heat assignments, at the main entrance of Northside College Prep. Team Captains will then lead the Team on a warm-up run to the Indoor Track & Field Stadium. The first heat of the Time Trial will start at 8:00 am Sharp.

The Time Trial is MANDATORY. All Athletes must be able to finish a 400m Time Trial to be on the TEAM. Athletes will also get the opportunity to throw the Shot Put. Uniforms will NOT be issued to any athletes that miss the Time Trial for any reason.Thanks.

The Time Trial will help determine our initial Varsity, Junior Varsity, Sophomore, and Freshman 4x400m Relay Teams.

The King and Queen of the Quarter and Shot Put competitions give Northside athletes an appreciation for each others events, and makes the TEAM stronger.

The distance runners also benefit from the 400m Time Trial, by learning their maximum quarter speed. With the knowledge of their maximum quarter speed, the coaching staff is able to provide proper racing strategy for the 800m run.

Athletes will meet at the MAIN ENTRANCE of Northside College Prep at 7:45 am before going to the Indoor Stadium at North Park University. The Indoor Stadium is located on the corner of Kedzie and Carmen ave. Thanks.

A public address announcer will introduce the contestants and announce the results of each 400m heat. There will also be a Starter with a starter's pistol and official timers for all of the 400m heats.

TEAM Schedules for the 2016 season are available under "Student of the Sport".
