Cuitlahuac Pineda Youniss 4:52 Mile! Charlie Mesimore 4:54 Mile! Wesley Laytham breaks five minute barrier with 4:57 Mile!
The five minute barrier is the bench mark for elite high school milers. In 1966, American distance legend Steve Prefontaine ran a Mile PR of 5:00 his freshman year of High School Track & Field. On Saturday, April 5, 2008, Northside Freshman Wesley Laytham passed Steve Prefontaine's High School Freshman mark with a personal best time of 4:57.50!!!
Payton Sophomore Jose Mora won the Mile with a personal best time of 4:43.52. Mather Junior Eddie Torres finished in second place with an outstanding time of 4:49.17. Lake View Senior Alex Agafonov finished in third place with an outstanding time of 4:50.00. Northside Sophomore Cuitlahuac Pineda Youniss finished in fourth place with an outstanding time of 4:52.60! Cuitlahuac Pineda Youniss was awarded a Medal for placing fourth overall. Northside Freshman Charlie Mesimore finished in fifth place with a personal best time of 4:54.19! Charlie Mesimore was awarded a Medal for placing fifth overall. Lincoln Park Senior Derek Schnake finished in sixth place with an outstanding time of 4:56.92. Northside Freshman Wesley Laytham finished in seventh place with a personal best time of 4:57.50. Mather Junior Justen Garth completed the secoring by placing eighth overall with an outstanding time of 4:59.24.
