On Tuesday, April 10, 2007, the Northside College Prep Womens Track Team traveled to Deerfield, Illinois for the 2007 Deerfield Classic, featuring rivals Glenbrook North High School and Deerfield High School. The weather was unseasonably cold, but the Mustangs thrivied and continued to break records in the most difficult conditions. There was three teams in the meet, and individual scoring went through fourth place on the following scale: 5-3-2-1. Points in Relays were awarded for first and second only, on the following scale: 5-3. In the Pole Vault, Senior Natalie Hanigan and Freshman Bessie Nolan had three quality vaults, but did not clear a height. In the Triple Jump, Maria Torres won it with a jump of 30'6. Deerfield's Fogt placed second with a jump of 29'4. Glenbrook North's Atlas placed third with a jump of 28'11. Glenbrook North's Angel completed the scoring by placing fourth with a jump of 27'11.5. Northside Sophomore Gayatri Satam jumped 27'8. Northside Derika Benton scratched on all three attempts. In the Long Jump, Glenbrook North's Clark won it with a jump of 14'8.5. Northside Senior Julie Bujnowski placed second with a jump of 13'7.25. Glenbrook North's Atlas placed third with a jump of 13'4. Deerfield's Winter completed the scoring by placing fourth with a jump of 13'3.5. Northside Sophomore Maria Torres jumped 13'2. Sophomore Maria Zdunek jumped 12'5.5. Sophomore Gayatri Satam jumped 11'10.25. In the Shot Put, Northside Junior Courtney Konow BROKE THE SCHOOL RECORD and WON THE MEET with a throw of 28'10. Deerfield's Raven placed second with a throw of 27'11. Deerfield's Kelly placed third with a throw of 26'1.5. Northside Junior Kelly Varney completed the scoring by placing fourth with a throw of 25'7.5. Northside's Kaitlin Renkosiak had an outstanding throw of 23'7.75. Northside Sophomore Brittany Brown had a personal best throw of 18'2.5. Northside's Jennifer Mensah threw 15'0. In the Discus, Northside Kaitlin Renkosiak BROKE THE SCHOOL RECORD and WON THE MEET with a throw of 73'9! Northside Kelly Varney placed second with a throw of 70'8. Deerfield's Leslie placed third with a throw of 70'5.5. Deerfield's Mariam completed the scoring by placing fourth with a throw of 69'7. Northside's Courtney Konow threw 66'1. Northside's Jennifer Mensah threw 40'10. Northside's Brittany Brown threw 35'2.5. Northside Sophomore Stephanie Sotomayor threw 29'6.5. In the Varsity 4x800m Relay, Glenbrook North won it with a time of 10:41. Deerfield placed second with a time of 10:50. Northside placed third with a time of 11:33. Northside Freshman Bessie Nolan ran the first leg in a time of 2:51. Senior Amy Perez ran the second leg in a time of 3:03. Sophomore Monica Laytham ran the third leg in a time of 2:57. Sophomore Carmen Abelson anchored the relay to third place with a time of 2:42, for a total time of 11:33. In the Junior Varsity 4x800m Relay, Jessica Galang ran a 3:15 on the first leg of the Relay, and made a nice exchange to Andrea Buiser. Buiser ran a time of 3:39 on the second leg of the Relay. Freshman Mahaim Haider ran a time of 3:31 on the third leg of the Relay. Freshman Jessica Tapia ran a time of 3:31 on the fourth leg of the relay, for a total time of 13:56. In the Varsity 4x100m Relay, Jennifer Kane ran a 14.65 100m split on the first leg of the Relay. Freshman Karen Li ran a 15.12 100m split on the second leg of the Relay. Maria Zdunek ran a 14.88 100m split on the third leg of the Relay. Sophomore Adaora Achufusi anchored the Mustangs with an impressive 13.56 100m split on the fourth leg of the relay, for a total time of 58.21. In the Junior Varsity 4x100m Relay, Sophomore Stephanie Sotomayor, Derika Benton, Ursula Moreno-Vanderlaan, and Alex Custer combined for an outstanding time of 66.03. In the Varsity 3200m run, Northside Junior Rachel Kittaka, and Sophomore Ani Zotti placed first and second respectively against an impressive field, that included 37 athletes. Rachel Kittaka went through 400m at 79 seconds, and was at 2:50 for 800m (79/91), and went through 1200m in 4:23 (79/91/93), and ran the first mile in 5:58 (79/91/93/95). Rachel Kittaka went through 2000m at 7:35, and was at 9:13 for 2400m, and went through 2800m in 10:53 and finished in first place with an outstanding 3200m time of 12:27 (79/91/93/95/97/98/100/94). Sophomore Ani Zotti went through 400m at 87 seconds, and was at 3:02 for 800m (87/95), and went through 1200m in 4:37 (87/95/95), and ran the first mile in 6:14 (87/95/95/97). Ani Zotti went through 2000m in 7:52, and was at 9:30 for 2400m, and went through 2800m in 11:10 and finished in second place with a personal best 3200m time of 12:45 (87/95/95/97/98/98/100/95). The Mustangs scored a total of eight points in the 3200m run! In the Varsity 100m Hurdles, Jennifer Kane placed third with a time of 21.10. Northside Freshman Karen Li ran a personal best time of 21.20. In the Varsity 100m Dash, Sophomore Anna Parks ran a personal best time of 14.03. Senior Natalie Hanigan ran an outstanding time of 14.13. Sophomore Adaora Achufusi ran a time of 14.50. Sophomore Maria Zdunek ran a time of 15.30. Sophomore Derika Benton ran a time of 16.10. Sophomore Stephanie Sotomayor ran a time of 16.60. In the Varisty 800m run, Anna Parks came from behind to win it with an outstanding time of 2:36 (80/76). Monica Laytham placed fifth overall with an outstanding time of 2:56 (85/91). Freshman Bessie placed sixth overall with a time of 3:01 (86/95). Sophomore Jennifer Friedmann ran a personal best time of 3:06 (90/96) to place ninth overall. Jennifer Friedmann dropped three seconds off her PR! In the Varsity 4x200m Relay, Senior Julie Bujnowski ran an outstanding 200m split of 29.03 on the first leg of the relay. Sophomore Maria Torres ran a 29.12 200m split on the second leg of the relay, and made a nice exchange to Sophomore Jennifer Kane. Jennifer Kane ran a 30.50 200m split on the third leg of the relay. Senior Amy Perez anchored the Relay to third place with a 30.51 200m split for a total time of 1:59.16. In the Junior Varsity 4x200m Relay, Stephanie Sotomayor ran a 33.00 200m split on the first leg of the relay. Sophomore Gayatri Satam ran 32.00 200m split on the second leg of the relay. Ursela Moreno-Vanderlaan ran a 40.00 200m split on the third leg of the relay. Junior Alex Custer anchored the relay with an outstanding 29.85 200m split, for a total time of 2:14.85. In the Varsity 400m Run, Julie Bujnowski ran a personal best time of 65.21 to place third overall. Senior Natalie Hanigan ran an outstanding time of 69.00. Sophomore Adaora Achufusi ran an outstanding time of 70.21. Freshman Karen Li ran an outstanding time of 73.40. In the Varsity 300m Hurdles, Senior Amy Perez BROKE THE SCHOOL RECORD and placed third overall with a personal best time of 57.10. Sophomore Maria Zdunek ran a season best time of 59.50. Junior Alex Custer ran an outstanding time of 71.60. In the Varsity 1600m Run, Captain Rachel Kittaka ran a time of 5:55 (2:50/3:05) to place second overall. Sophomore Ani Zotti ran a time of 6:01 to place third overall. Sophomore Carmen Abelson ran a time of 6:09. Jessica Galang ran a time of 7:30. Jessica Tapia ran a time of 7:39. Mahaim Haider ran a time of 7:51. In the 200m Dash, Sophomore Adaora Achufusi ran an outstanding time of 29.8. Freshman Karen Li ran an outstanding time of 31.90. Junior Alex Custer ran a time of 36.04. In the Varsity 4x400m Relay, Senior Julie Bujnowski ran a 64.66 400m split on the first leg of the Relay. Kaitlin Renkosiak ran a 77.09 400m split on the second leg of the Relay. Sophomore Monica Laytham ran a 76.91 400m split on the third leg of the Relay, and made a nice exchange to Sophomore Anna Parks.
