Jonathan Kittaka WINS 3200m run at Deerfield! Eric Nelson WINS High Jump! Geoff Edwards breaks 100m Record! Albert Lin breaks 110m Hurdle Record!

On Tuesday, April 10, 2007, the Northside College Prep Mens Track Team traveled to Deerfield, Illinois for the 2007 Deerfield Classic, featuring IHSA Sectional rivals Glenbrook North High School, and Deerfield High School. The weather was unseasonably cold, but the Mustangs thrivied and continued to break records in the most difficult conditions. There was three teams in the meet, and individual scoring went through fourth place on the following scale: 5-3-2-1. Points in Relays were awarded for first and second only, on the following scale: 5-3. In the High Jump, Sophomore Eric Nelson missed on his first attempt of the day at 5'2, and then cleared every height on the first try for the remainder of the competition, and WON the High Jump with a personal best jump of 5'10. After winning the competition, Nelson attempted 6'0, and came very close to clearing it, and it appeared that he had the height and that his head just didn't stay back. Eric Nelson had an outstanding meet. Deerfield took second with a jump of 5'8. Northside Sophomore Wemi Jemine and Glenbrook North's Knoll tied for third with a jump of 5'4. Wemi Jemine won the tiebreaker by having less total misses in the competition. Deerfield's Blake placed fifth, and Glenbrook North Kosma placed sixth with a jump of 5'2. Northside Freshman Hunter Speese jumped 4'10. In the Pole Vault, Sophomore Simon Vecchioni had three excellent attempts at 8'0, and Junior Vinh Nguyen also had three quality vaults. In the Shot put, Deerfield's McIntyre won it with a throw of 43'11. Deerfield's Danos took second with a throw of 41'11.5. Glenbrook North's Strauss took third with a throw of 41'7. Northside Sophomore Eric Nelson completed the scoring with a throw of 36'0.5 for fourth place. Northside Senior Darrell Johnson threw a personal best throw of 31'8. Northside Senior Robert Garcia threw 28'6.5. Freshman Alejandro Valdivieso threw 24'9.5. Sophomore Gustavo Hernandez threw 23'11. Junior Vinh Nguyen threw 21'3.5. Senior Joey Paquette threw a personal best throw of 18'10.5. In the Discus, Deerfield's Rixon won it with a throw of 137'11. Deerfield's McIntyre placed second with a throw of 122'1. Glenbrook North's Klimo placed third with a throw of 115'4. Deerfield's Hilo completed the scoring with a throw of 112'9 for foruth place. Northside Senior Robert Garcia threw a personal best throw of 77'8. Sophomore Gustavo Hernandez threw a personal best throw of 59'11. Hernandez improved by 8'9! Senior Darrell Johnson threw a personal best throw of 59'0. Junior Vinh Nguyen threw a personal best throw 56'6. Freshman Alejandro Valdiviesto threw a personal best throw of 47'8. Freshman Tenzin Wangdhen threw a personal best throw of 44'2. In the Long Jump, Deerfield's Miller won it with a jump of 18'7.75. Deerfield's Glass placed second with a jump of 17'3.5. Northside Sophomore Albert Lin placed third with a jump of 17'3. Northside Senior Geoff Edwards completed the scoring with a jump of 16'11.5 for fourth place. Northside Sophomore Martin Melto jumped 16'7.75. Northside Freshman Hunter Speese jumped 13'10. In the Triple Jump, Deerfield's Glass won it with a jump of 41'4. Deerfield's Alecassis placed second with a jump of 38'0.75. Glenbrook North's Lee placed third with a jump of 37'3.5. Deerfield's Anderson completed the scoring with a jump of 36'1.5. Northside Sophomore Albert Lin Jumped 35'10. Northside Freshman Jiasong Yang jumped 31'3. In the Varsity 4x800m Relay, Sophomore Simon Vecchioni ran the first 400m in 64 seconds and finished with a 2:24 800m split (64/80), and made a nice exchange to Junior Santino Merino. Santino Merino ran the first 400m in 72 seconds and finished with a 2:26 800m split (72/74). Freshman Andrew Czyszczon ran a 2:35 800m split (67/88) on the third leg of the relay, and made a nice exchange to Junior Erik Flores. Erik Flores anchored the Mustangs to third place, with a 2:25 800m split (67/78) for a total time of 9:50. In the Junior Varsity 4x800m Relay, Robert Garcia ran a 2:36 800m split (70/86) on the first leg of the relay, and made a nice exchange to Adam Swiatlowski. Junior Adam Swiatlowski ran a 2:46 800m split (83/83). Junior Brad Eben ran a 2:45 800m split (76/89) on the third leg of the relay. Senior Joey Paquette anchored the Mustangs with a 2:35 800m split (76/79) for a total time of 10:42. In the Varsity 4x100m Relay, Martin Melto ran a 13.58 100m split on the first leg of the Relay. Junior Sean Kung ran a 12.55 100m split on the second leg of the relay. Freshman Neal Capapas ran a 12.54 100m split on the third leg of the Relay. Junior Jose Choto ran a 12.10 100m split on the fourth leg of the Relay, for a total time of 50.77. In the Sophomore-Freshman 4x100m Relay, Freshman Sam Olver ran a 13.84 100m split on the first leg of the Relay. Sophomore Nathan Michaelson ran a 14.18 100m split on the second leg of the Relay. Freshman Tenzin Wangdhen ran a 14.89 100m split on the third leg of the relay. Freshman Neibu Tadele ran a 16.89 100m split on the anchor leg of the relay, for a total time of 59.80. In the Junior Varsity 4x100m Relay, Sophomore Coleman Gailloreto ran a 14.75 100m split on the first leg of the relay. Senior David Velasco ran a 17.59 100m split on the second leg of the relay. Freshman Prasanth Bijjam ran a 15.19 100m split on the third leg of the relay. Sophomore Gustavo Hernandez ran a 14.73 100m split on the anchor leg of the relay. for a total time of 62.26. In the 3200m run, there were 37 runners on the Track at once, and Sophomore Jonathan Kittaka won it with a time of 10:49. Kittaka was at 70 for 400m, 2:26 for 800m, 3:48 for 1200m, and 5:12 for the first Mile. Kittaka ran the second Mile in 5:37 for a total time of 10:49 to win it. Glenbrook North's Brenden Boyer placed second overall with a time of 11:03. Junior Preston Buehrer was at 70 for 400m, 2:29 for 800, 3:53 for 1200m, and 5:19 for the first Mile. Buehrer ran the second Mile in 5:50 for a total time of 11:09 to place third overall. Freshman Cuitlahuac Pineda completed the scoring by placing fourth overall with a Personal Best time of 11:11 (74/2:38/4:05/5:32/5:39). Pineda dropped 17 seconds off his PR and the Mustangs took three out of the top four places in the 3200m run. Northside Freshman Jaisong Yang placed eighth overall with an outstanding time of 11:59 (5:47/6:12). Freshman Cooper Eben placed tenth overall with a personal best time of 12:12 (6:03/6:09). Junior Faraz Khan placed 13th overall with a time of 13:08 (6:21/6:47). In the 110m Hurdles, Sophomore Albert Lin BROKE THE SCHOOL RECORD with an outstanding time of 20.00. Freshman Andrew Czyzczon ran an outstanding time of 23.40. Junior Santino Merino ran a time of 23.50. Junior Sean Kung ran a personal best time of 25.10. In the 100m Dash, Senior Geoff Edwards BROKE THE SCHOOL RECORD with an outstanding time of 12.02 to place second overall. The school record (12.12) was set in 2003 at the City Championships by Jonathan Miller and it lasted for fours years. Freshman Hunter Speese ran a personal best time of 12.44. Junior Preston Buehrer ran a time of 12.70. Junior Erik Flores ran a time of 12.77. Freshman Sam Olver ran a personal best time of 14.10. Senior David Velasco ran a time of 15.26. Freshman Prasanth Bijjam ran a time of 15.60. In the 800m run, Junior Irfan Hussain ran a time of 2:44 (78/86). Sophomore Coleman Gailloreto ran a time of 3:07 (80/107). In the Varsity 4x200m Relay, Junior Sean Kung ran a 27.67 200m split on the first leg of the Relay. Junior Santino Merino ran a 26.35 200m split on the second leg of the relay, and made a nice exchange to Neal Capapas. Freshman Neal Capapas ran a 26.75 200m split on the third leg of the relay. Junior Jose Choto anchored the relay to third place with a 25.19 200m split, for a total time of 1:45.96. In the Junior Varsity 4x200m Relay, Freshman Sam Olver ran a 29.00 200m split on the first leg of the relay. Sophomore Nathan Michaelson ran a 29.00 200m split on the second leg of the relay, and made a nice exchange to Tenzin Wangdhen. Freshman Tenzin Wangdhen ran a 33.00 200m split on the third leg of the relay. Freshman Neibu Tadele anchored the relay with a 36.00 200m split, for a total time of 2:07. In the 400m run, Freshman Peter Wilk ran a personal best time of 66.29. Junior Irfan Hussain ran a 68.80. Sophomore NAthan Michaelson ran a time of 69.10. In the 300m Hurdles, Freshman Andrew Czyszczon ran an outstanding time of 55.80. Junior Sean Kung ran a personal best time of 56.40. Junior Vinh Nguyen ran a time of 62.40. In the 1600m run, Northside Sophomore Jonathan Kittaka placed 3rd overall with an outstanding time of 5:08. Kittaka went through 400 meters in 72 seconds, and 2:30 for 800 meters, and 3:54 for 1200m, and 5:08 for the Mile. (72/78/84/74). Junior Preston Buehrer lost circulation in his feet during the mile due to the cold weather, and showed incredible mental toughness staying in the race. Buehrer went through 400 meters in 72 seconds, and 2:32 for 800 meters, and 4:01 for 1200m, and 5:22 for the Mile (72/80/89/81). After the race, Preston Buehrer's feet were examined by the Deerfield High School medical trainer and he was scratched from the rest of his events (4x400). By the following day, he was able to return to practice with no discomfort. Freshman Cuitlahuac Pineda ran an outstanding time of 5:26. Pineda went through 400 meters in 73 seconds, and 2:37 for 800 meters, and 4:05 for 1200m, and 5:26 for the Mile (73/84/88/81). Sophomore Simon Vecchioni ran an outstanding time of 5:40 for the Mile (74/86/96/84). Freshman Jaisong Yang ran a time of 5:48 for the Mile (80/86/92/90). Junior Adam Swiatlowski ran an outstanding time of 6:02. Freshman Thomas Nguyen ran a personal best time of 6:10. Freshman Cooper Eben ran an outstanding time of 6:12. Junior Faraz Khan ran a time of 6:15. In the 200m Dash, Erik Flores ran a personal best time of 25.80. Santino Merino ran a time of 25.90. Freshman Hunter Speese ran a time of 26.10. Peter Wilk ran a time of 28.24. Sam Olver ran a time of 29.00. In the Varsity 4x400m Relay, Junior Jose Choto ran a 57.96 400m split on the first leg of the relay. Freshman Neal Capapas ran a 62.97 400m split on the second leg of the relay. Junior Erik Flores ran a 61.03 400m split on the third leg of the relay.
