Former Head Coach Mike Huntsman - Meet Manager and Finish Results

Posted by Mike Davis at Sep 12, 2008 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Coach Mike Huntsman

Former Head Coach Mike Huntsman returns to assist the Cross Country team once again.   Coach Huntsman acts as Co- Meet Director for the annual Monte Vista Invitational, as well as handling the entries and scoring for ALL the EBAL XC meets!  A long time "tech junkie", Coach Huntsman brings his vast knowledge of computers and programs to enable the smooth scoring of all our league meets. Coach Huntsman retired from teaching at Monte Vista at the end of the 2016 school year.

As an area XC Coach for over 28 years, Coach Huntsman grew the program here at Monte Vista into the largest in the EBAL.  He successfully coached numerous CIF level athletes and teams, and is resonsponsible for many of the great traditions that MVXC enjoys today.  He continues to better the program here at Monte Vista through his dedicated involvement!

2008 - Another epic climp up Mt Diablo!

Posted by Mike Davis at Aug 20, 2008 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

On Saturday, August 16th, as the last event of the Summer Running Club, the annual run up Mount Diablo took place.  Over twenty runners  - athletes and coaches - took on the extreme challenge of running to the top of the 3,849 foot mountain!

Coach Mike Huntsman once again drove the chase vehicle, filled with water, gatoraid and food supplied by Team Mom Sally Camp.  Anna Hoyt, nursing a foot injury, acted as the official photographer and clicked nearly 300 photos of the event!

Everyone who started the climb made it.  The first segment is traditionally the toughest - the 3.5 mile grind up BBQ Terrace Trail until we hit the south road near Rock City - and it didn't disappoint.  However, the squad was tough, and in no time at all, the stage was behind them and the shorter segments awaited!  While warm, the weather cooperated, making for a great view as the summit approached.

Senior Mike Roderick earns he "Beast" award for his no-walk effort.  Mike seemed to defy gravity today.  Connor defends his title as the last segment champ, the "toughest thing you'll ever do" he tells the group before the final race to the top.   While lacking the numbers, girls team members Natalie Scott, Amanda Wolf and Katie Swinnerton all make the climb today!  With three coaches making the climb - things look good for those all important coaches races coming up!

Photo's are on the XC Photobucket site - see "Links/Photos" above.

Congrats to the following teammates who conquered the summit!

Natalie Scott, Katie Swinnerton, Amanda Wolf, Mike Roderick, Connor Donley, Alex Morris, Derek Giovanetti, Ford Higgins, Chris Casey, Colton Anderson, Jake Erlick, Vincent Kot, Eric Bergquist, Dan Roderick, Michael Garaventa, Robert Uhalde, Taylor Balke and coaches Martha Breen, Scott Camp and Coach Davis.
