Newsblast #6 for MV Cross Country: Practice Friday, Scott Bauhs Meet, and more

Posted by Courtney Corda on Sep 23 2015 at 05:00PM PDT

Dear Parents and Student Athletes,

Last weekend was chock full of XC activity, but this weekend, most of the team gets a rest. Here’s the latest news.

Practice this Friday: Practice will be at 3:30 as usual. Coach Kara and Athletic Director Andy Popper will be in charge of practice tomorrow since Coach Mandee and Coach Davis will be with the varsity top 7 squads in Portland. If you want to follow the action in Portland on Saturday, there may be live results available for our team’s races at 12:05 (girls) and 12:35 (boys), but no link has yet been posted. Check the meet website for updates.

Important Meet Oct. 3: If you are taking the SAT on Oct. 3 and will not participate in the Scott Bauhs meet, please reply to this email RIGHT AWAY and let me know. I am building a list for the coaches of athletes excused from this meet for the SAT. As you most of you already know, when the team finalized its 2015 meet schedule, we replaced the Castro Valley Invite that we have done in the past with the Scott Bauhs Invitational on Oct. 3. Scott Bauhs is a critical race for the team because it gives ALL the team the opportunity to run a 3-mile race in advance of the 3-mile races at the EBAL Center Meet on Oct. 14. It is also an opportunity to preview the course that we will run for the EBAL Championships, which is very helpful for both new and returning runners. The Scott Bauhs meet will also serve as another data point for the selection of teams for future varsity and JV races, including the Mt. SAC trip. The coaches want to see all athletes running in this meet. They are aware, however, that some athletes registered to take the SAT on this day and may not be able to reschedule the exam.

No Buses to/from Scott Bauhs Meet: We will send more information about this meet next week, but as an advance heads up, parents will need to drive their athletes to and from this meet. Kids are not allowed to drive themselves per district policy. We do encourage informal family carpooling so please start arranging among yourselves. The meet is held at the nearby Shadow Cliffs Regional Park in Pleasanton. As a team, we are trying to keep expenses low without inconveniencing parents too much. We tried to pick one of the closest meets as one of the non-bus meets.

Tuesday Uniform and Warm-Ups Distribution: For those athletes who ordered warm ups but didn’t receive them yet, please plan to pick them up at practice Tuesday. By now, everyone should have their racing uniform (shirt & shorts), but anyone who still needs to purchase one or exchange a size, can get help Tuesday. (Uniform / warm ups order form)

Volunteers Needed: In the immortal words of Roseanne Rosannadanna, “It’s always something. If it ain’t one thing, it’s another.” Yep, we still need more help. Next up is our team’s turn at the Oct. 17 football game snack shack. This is a very social and fun way to volunteer. Details are on the Sign Up Genius. We need about 12 more XC parents. I’m also looking for a few good men and women for some other tasks.   Thank you to ALL who have already volunteered. The team could not manage without the help of all of you great, active parents!

$17.50 is Such a Deal, Such A Deal! The suggested team donation amounts to only $17.50 per week for a fitness program and team building experience that will pay dividends for life. Please help our parent-funded team by donating soon. If you can’t swing the full $245 suggested donation, how about $200 or $100? According to the school, our team is short of its budget by $8,280 dollars. That means about 34 families have not donated. If you are one of them, please consider making a donation. Parents, please help our coaches continue to focus their care and attention on developing our runners (and not on budget worries). Every donation is appreciated, no matter how small!

Enjoy your weekends and Go Mustangs!
