Here's a peek at each race in the California Interscholastic Federation state cross country championships Saturday at Woodward Park in Fresno:

Boys Division I

  • STARTING TIME: 10:10 a.m.

     

  • LOCAL TEAMS, INDIVIDUALS: Monte Vista, Amador Valley, Jack Leng (Castro Valley), Wyatt Landrum (Liberty), Dmitry Kislyuk (California)

     

  • ANALYSIS: Buchanan-Clovis has moved into the team favorite role after Murrieta Valley finished third at the Southern Section championships. Dana Hills won that race. The individual favorite is Riley Sullivan of Trabuco Hills-Mission Viejo.

    Division II

     

  • STARTING TIME: 12:20 p.m.

     

  • LOCAL TEAMS, INDIVIDUALS: De La Salle, Nathanael Litwiller (Clayton Valley)

     

  • ANALYSIS: Loyola-Los Angeles easily won the Southern Section title and is the team favorite along with NCS champ Petaluma. Philip MacQuitty of Palo Alto and Sterling Lockert of Petaluma are contenders for the individual title.

    Division III

     

  • STARTING TIME: 11:15 a.m.

     

  • LOCAL TEAMS, INDIVIDUALS: Campolindo, Las Lomas, Acalanes, James Attarian (Dublin), Jeremy Grace (Dublin), Mark Blattler (Alhambra)

     

  • ANALYSIS: Barstow is a team favorite after placing five in the top 16 to win the Southern Section title. Attarian is in the mix for the individual title, and defending champ Mohamed Abdalla of Willow Glen-San Jose returns. However, he finished second in the Central Coast Section championships to Gambileg Bor of Jefferson-Daly City.

    Division IV

     

  • STARTING TIME: 1:25 p.m.

     

  • LOCAL TEAM: St. Mary's

     

  • ANALYSIS: German Fernandez of Riverbank, who finished second last year, is back. St. Mary's Matt Duffy, who was seventh last year, could challenge for the individual title. Team-wise, Central Section champion McFarland and Southern Section champ Nordhoff-Ojai are favorites.

    Division V

     

  • STARTING TIME: 9:40 a.m.

     

  • LOCAL TEAMS, INDIVIDUALS: Berean Christian, Christian Kurth (Valley Christian)

     

  • ANALYSIS: The individual favorite is Aric Van Halen from Oakwood-North Hollywood. Woodcrest Christian-Riverside is the team favorite.

    Girls Division I

     

  • STARTING TIME: 9:05 a.m.

     

  • LOCAL TEAMS, INDIVIDUALS: Castro Valley, College Park, Colleen Lillig (California), Jasmine Cox (Deer Valley), Lara Jansen (Granada)

     

  • ANALYSIS: Saugus-Santa Clarita, which was ranked No. 1 in the state overall by DyeStat.com in its Nov. 16 rankings, dominated in the Southern Section championships. Individually, Kauren Tarver of Serrano-Phelan, who was second last year, is an individual favorite.

    Division II

     

  • STARTING TIME: 10:40 a.m.

     

  • LOCAL TEAMS: Carondelet, Livermore

     

  • ANALYSIS: The Cougars are strong favorites to defend their state title. Carondelet's Nicole Hood and Casa Grande's Jacque Taylor could be among the contenders for the individual title. The favorite is defending champion Christine Babcock of Woodbridge-Irvine.

    Division III

     

  • STARTING TIME: 12:50 p.m.

     

  • LOCAL TEAMS, INDIVIDUALS: Campolindo, Acalanes, Jewelz Andrews (Alhambra), Libby Brokaw (Las Lomas)

     

  • ANALYSIS: Corona Del Mar-Newport Beach and Lutheran-Orange were one-two at the Southern Section championships and could repeat that finish Saturday. A dark horse is Campolindo. Shelby Buckley of Corona Del Mar, who finished second last year, is the individual favorite.

    Division IV

     

  • STARTING TIME: 11:45 a.m.

     

  • LOCAL TEAM: St. Mary's

     

  • ANALYSIS: The Panthers are a favorite to win the team title. Individually, the champ could also come out of the North Coast Section with Healdsburg's Sarah Sumpter.

    Division V

     

  • STARTING TIME: 8:30 a.m.

     

  • LOCAL INDIVIDUAL: Celeste Northcott (Valley Christian)

     

  • ANALYSIS: Mission College Prep-San Luis Obispo's Jordan Hasay is perhaps the biggest favorite of any race on Saturday. Woodcrest Christian is also a favorite to win this team title.
