Parents: Important Information about the 2014 Monte Vista Invitational
Calling all MVXC parents!
On Tuesday, Sept 2nd, Monte Vista will once again host the MV Invitational, now in its 31st season!!! This meet is one of the traditional kick-off meets for the fall XC season. Twenty teams, over 1,300 runners, will attack the difficult MV two mile course, which includes the imfamous Eliminator Hill in the second mile.
To host a successful meet each year, we need over thirty parent volunteers to help with things like: set up, snack table, finish line chute, course monitors, timing, team check in.... as you can see, there is lots to do.
We will discuss the volunteer positions in detail at the parent meeting. In the meantime - feel free to sign up now.
Some additional comments from the Coaching Staff about the Invitational:
- Athletes should be in our school issued uniform. If they have not yet received a uniform, then have them wear a white shirt and black shorts. If the shirt says Monte Vista on it, all the better.
- Except for Junior Boys (first race), athletes are not excused early from school. Junior boys can be excused after 5th period or stay through 6th period and head immediately over to the park.
- All athletes must stay for the entire meet. Please do not ask to take your child home early. If they have already competed, they will be expected to cheer for their teammates. All athletes need to help take down the course after the last race. This meet will last until after 7pm - plan for this!
- Athletes compete in grade level, gender specific races. Freshman compete last.
- Make sure your athlete has some food during the event - freshman don't race until late, if their last meal is at noon, that is too of a break before racing. They can eat a light snack at 3:00 and be ready to go.
- There are many great viewing areas on the course! Get out and help cheer for our team.
- Meet t-shirts will be on sale near the snack table. Cost is $18.00. Provided by Big Daddy Graffix.
