RESULTS - 3200 METER TIME TRIAL AT SRVHS

On Saturday morning, Nov 13th, the varsity squads headed over to San Ramon Valley HS's track to contest the traditional 3200 meter time trial.  Coming a week before the NCS race, the time trial provides a great opportunity to race a shorter distance as a tune-up, and try for a new PR at the 3200 distance.  And this year was no differnt!

Starting at 9am, the first heat featured most of the varsity boys from Livermore, San Ramon Valley, De La Salle and your Mustangs.  Right from the start, SRV's Parker Duel blasted to the front in route to a great time of 9:21 - a big PR for him.  The chase pack was sub 5 at the 1600 point, and then the real racing began.  Zach Chambers has a great race today, chasing down everyone except for Parker, as he runs a solid 9:55 time to take 2nd place.  Josh Smiley (10:02) and Trevor Furhiman (10:09)  are close behind.  Drew, Logan, and Michael are closely packed behind them.  Taylor Balke closes out the Mustangs in the first heat.

Sr Zach Chambers and Jr Trevor Fuhriman pace the chase pack at the SRV 3200

In the second heat, Soph Cameron Somers shows up to deliver a solid 12:41 PR, and is the only non-varsity from MV to show up today.  Way to go Cameron!

Many of the varsity girls rested today, trying to recover from colds.  That didn't stop Meghan Yap, Elena Smith, Meghan Nesbit and Amanda Stansell from racing hard in the second heat.  Meghan Yap runs a great race to finish as the 4th girl overall in a fine 12:12 PR time, proving that she can master the longer track races as well as her 400/800 specialties!  Elena has a strong finish to hit a 12:40 time - which is the track lettering standard!  Meghan N and Amanda run solid times as well today.

EBAL CENTER MEET #2 - OCT 20TH, ROBERTSON PARK
2010 Varsity Girls start ebal II
VARSITY GIRLS REACT TO THE GUN AT EBAL CENTER MEET II, OCT 20TH

It's not often a new course opens up in the EBAL.  For over 8 years, the league has used Oak Hill Park and Shadow Cliffs Regional Park (Pleasanton) as the only venues for cross country races.  All that changed last off-season, as the league coaches voted to bring Robertson Park in Livermore into a three park rotation.  While familar to the Livermore schools, this park was brand new for the Mustangs.  Leaving after lunch period, the team arrived early in order to walk the course and check out its' features.

The course is a loop, which reverses upon itself and circles back over most of itself.  While the course is flat, the number of turns and loose footing areas meant that the times are not fast.   The course also measured out at 3.03 miles.  Despite this, many Mustangs did set season leading PRs today (check out XC Stats to see!).  Race summaries:

Boys JV Race -  Freshman Reid Gratsch continues his solid running by pacing the JV boys squad today.  His 18:12 is good for 14th place overall.  Forming the rest of MV's scoring 5 were: Soph Christopher Menezes, Soph James Mason, Senior Brandon Wu, and Freshman Jake Aubey.  Rounding out the top 7 were Jr Duke Peterson and Soph Zack Erlick.  The team once again came in 4th place, behind DLS, SRV and AV.

Girls JV Race -  It was a solid mixture of experience and youth today for the JV Girls as the squad ran tough to grab 3rd place today.  Jr Lauren Gratsch and Sr Kate Sallstrom work together all race, placing 6th and 7th overall. Right behind in 9th is Soph Ryan Spencer with a solid race today.  Soph Megan Blair (15th) and Freshman Erin Herting (33rd) form the top five scorers.  Soph Catherine Bronge and Sr Meredith Huntley are 6th and 7th today.

Boys Varsity Race -  Jr Drew Feldman is the top Mustang today, running a solid race to eclispe several teammates who started out fast but could not hold the pace.  Drew clocks a solid 16:22 time.  Jr's Byron Kilian and Trevor Furhiman are next across the line, with Sr Josh Smiley in 4th.  Fifth runner today is Sr Zach Chambers in 30th place.  Michael Garaventa and Taylor Balke are 6th and 7th.  The boys ended up 5th again today.  Soph Michael Bartz makes his varsity debut today, running a solid 17:42 time.

Girls Varsity Race - Soph Amy Ingram continues to be the top runner this season, as she handles the Robertson Park course in a fine 18:54 time, finishing in 7th place.  Moving up to 11th place is Sr Jill Anderson while Jrs Kristina Chin (14th) and Meghan Yap (15th) are close behind.  Jr Mikaela Hammitt is 5th, with Sophs Elena Smith and Ellie Harvey in 6th and 7th.  While Granada once again took first place, the Lady Stangs were locked in a tough battle with Amador Valley today.  When the scores were tallied, the girls missed AV by 1 Point, taking 3rd again.

Did you ROCK today?  Check out the "XC Stats.com" link to see how you compared to last years race.  Pace per mile, finishing ranks, lots of great info - click here!

Season best PR's were the order of the day as the Mustangs raced over the 2 and 3 mile Newhall Park course.  Many teammates reported faster times on this course, despite the one big hill, compared to last week at the Ed Sias Invite.  Those who have run at Nike before appreciated the cloudy, cool weather that greated most of the racers.   Check out the XC Stats link for great data analysis!

The Mustangs looked sharp in their new team t-shirts as they hit the course for the early morning walk through.  With two team tents, the MV camp was once again a lively place.

With loud cheers from teammates during every race, several Stangs cracked into the top 25 today to earn coveted Nike medals and Nike "bling".

The Frosh Soph Girls were the fastest squad in the team scoring races with their 3rd place finish.  The Varsity teams finished 8th (boys) and 9th (girls) even though both groups were missing key teammates.

And the cheering didn't stop once the awards ceremony started.... and it didn't stop....and it didn't stop....

Up next is the big Stanford Invite for the Varsity on Sept 25th, and the Scott Bauhs Invite for the whole team on Oct 2nd (3 miles - yeah!!!)

ED SIAS INVITATIONAL

While the Monte Vista Invitational is the traditional first race in the East Bay each cross country season, the historic Ed Sias Invite really kicks off the team competition.  With separate races for the Frosh Soph, JV and Varsity, and a fast, interesting course, this meet has been a tradition for the Mustangs for many years now.  There is a long hill in the back part of the course - nothing compared to the Eliminator - but the short steep hill towards the finish is a trademark feature of the Hidden Valley Park course
.

Over 1100 athletes attacked the Eliminator today during the 27th running of the Monte Vista Invitational!  Surprisingly cool weather lead to some outstanding times today, including a new course record in the Senior Girls race!  With 22 teams contributing runners, Oak Hill Park was a colorful place indeed.

Many Mustangs ran their first high school race today, and handled the Eliminator Hill in fine fashion.  Overall our team results were very encouraging, from Varsity to JV and Frosh Soph!

Full results can be found in the handouts below.
