Raiders Fall on the Road to Apalachee, 55-35

Madison County rolled up 480 yards of total offense and put 35 points on the scoreboard at Apalachee Friday night.

 

Unfortunately, the Raiders were outmatched in both categories by the home Wildcats, who piled up 535 total yards in a 55-35 win.

The Raiders dropped to 2-7 on the season, while Apalachee improved to 6-3.

Apalachee jumped to a 14-0 lead it the first quarter with 21 and 76-yard touchdown runs by John Lee. The Wildcats tacked on two scores early in the second quarter on a 44-yard touchdown pass and a 19-yard interception return for a score.

Madison County answered with a seven-play, 80-yard drive, with Jacob Owens hooking up on two, 31-yard passes, one to Al Allen and one to Stacy Mack. Claude Johnson carried the ball in from one yard out to make the score 28-7.

Apalachee added another touchdown in the closing seconds of the first half and carried a 35-7 lead at intermission.
The Wildcats scored on runs of 28 and 45 yards in the third quarter to pull ahead 48-7.

Madison County then got its offense going, with Jamal Cooper catching a 48-yard touchdown pass from Owens. Jeremiah NeSmith then recovered an Apalachee fumble at the Wildcat 44. Owens then hit Allen for a 19 yard score to cut the deficit to 48-21. Apalachee added a one-yard touchdown run.

Cooper opened the fourth quarter with a 90-yard touchdown on a screen pass. Later, Owens hit Allen on a 77-yard bomb down the left sideline, the final score of the night.
