Spring over, but not the work

Madison County turns to its next phase of football preparations.  Madison County’s spring football season might be over after the Red’s 21-14 victory over the Gray in the Raiders’ annual intra-squad scrimmage. But the football chores aren’t over. “No, we’re just in a different phase,” Madison County head coach Randell Owens said.

The Raiders’ upcoming to-do list includes continuing to hit the weight room this month, sending players off to various position camps and entering a two-month long, “passing league” in June. A team-oriented football camp at West Georgia College in Carrollton follows in July before Madison County reconvenes for summer practice.

The plan is to keep busy during the lazy summer days. The coaching staff’s goal through all this is to continue to search for its best 11 players on defense and best 11 for offense while also getting an idea of who’s a varsity football player and who’s not all before the start of the fall.

For now, Madison County coaches have another assessment tool after getting Friday’s spring game on tape. “Yeah, it gave us another evaluation,” Owens said.
