Allen Commits to Division 1-AA Liberty University

With 3,060 career total yards and counting, Madison County’s Al Allen will take his football career to the next level.
The senior receiver-running back has committed to Division I-AA Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va.
Allen expects to officially sign with Liberty in February on National Signing Day.
“I feel like it’s an environment that he could compete in and do well,” Raider head coach Randell Owens said.
Owens certainly knows Liberty well, having played there as a four-year starter on the offensive line from 1976-1979 and graduating in 1980.
Noting the school’s picturesque Jeffersonian campus located in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Owens said this is a good opportunity for Allen.
“Being an alum of the school, I think it would be a good fit if he applies himself and works hard,” Owens said.
On the football field, the Flames went 8-3 in 2007 and are off to a 7-1 start this year.
“They’re playing a good caliber of football right now,” Owens said. “The facilities for Division I-AA level are outrageously good.”
Allen — who has 1,008 career rushing yards and 2,052 receiving yards heading into his final two games — was recruited by Liberty quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator Brandon Streeter, a former Clemson Tiger quarterback.
Allen took an unofficial visit to Liberty Oct. 18, where he attended a Flames football game. The experience was enough for Allen to make up his mind.
“It was a good visit when he went up, there was a good atmosphere — a lot of people in the stands, a lot of excitement, a lot of enthusiasm,” Owens said.
