Invaders Barely Get "Off Da Hook" 12-6

Posted by Larry Mills on Apr 16 2005 at 05:00PM PDT
The Invaders defeated Off DA Hook in a nailbiter on Sunday. ODH came to play with heart and a purpose, refusing to be embarrassed and dominated by the league leader. Joseph Chaney Jr. started the first half at QB for the Invaders. He efficiently advanced the ball down to ODH's 22 yard line. But, on 4th and 2 blocking back Arthur Anderson was unable to pull in a low pass and the Invaders' drive was stalled. The Invaders' defense came out aggressive. On ODH's second down CB Danny Gay stepped in front of a line drive throw and dropped what would have been an interception for a touchdown. The defense stiffened and got the ball back for the offense. Chaney went on to execute another precision drive, ending it with a right back trail play to Danny Gay for the Invaders' first touchdown. George Wyatt missed the ensuing 2-point conversion try. Veteran Michael Hawkins took over the helm at QB in the second half for the Invaders. ODH continued their courageous play in the second half and managed to eck out a score. However, their 1-point conversion try was unsuccessful and the score remained 6-6. Hawk proceeded to lead the Invaders on a game winning drive, completing a crucial 4th and 18 play to WR Matthew Anderson. Hawk completed passes to several different receivers during the drive, sealing the victory with a 3 yard shuttle pass to blocking back Paul Berry. The 2-point conversion attempt by George Wyatt was unsuccessful and the Invaders settled for a 12-6 victory. Again, the Invaders' defense was led by outstanding rushers, Greg Kelly, William Foster, Marty Jones and Lawrence Upson. Hopefully, today the Invaders learned what the term "Any Given Sunday" means.
