Invaders Defeat Unknown Talent 18-14

Posted by Larry Mills on Jul 22 2005 at 05:00PM PDT
The Invaders edged the Unknown Talent in a close game decided by big plays. The Invaders scored first on a 30 yard double pass from WR Joe (Leon) Chaney to WR Taurus McGhee, on a post-route. The conversion attempt was unsuccessful. The Invaders next scored came when Joseph Chaney intercepted a pass at the Invaders’ 40 yard line and returned it 60 yards for a touchdown. Unknown Talent’s first score came off of a 50 yard pass, when the ball was deflected by an Invaders’ defender into the hands of an Unknown Talent’s receiver. The Invaders’ defense bent, but didn’t break. Trailing 14-12 late in the second half, QB Michael Hawkins hit McGhee on a 35 yard post-corner route to end the game. On Unknown Talent’s next possession, Cornerback Tony Jeter (AKA: Bones) intercepted a pass to seal the victory for the Invaders. The Invaders’ rushing unit of Lawrence Upson, Will Foster and Greg Kelley provided outstanding pressure all game, which led to the turnovers.
