Invaders Edge Deep Impact 19-18

Deep Impact scored on the first play from scrimmage, when QB JR hit WR Matrix with a hitch pass, that he took 80 yards for the opening touchdown to give Deep Impact a 6-0 lead. The 1 point conversion attempt was unsuccessful. QB Mike Hawkins responded and led the Invaders on a scoring drive, completing passes to C George Wyatt, WR Joseph Chaney Jr., BB Paul Berry, and TE Anthony Weekes; before capping the drive with an 8 yard TD pass to Wyatt. The 1 point conversion pass was completed to WR Matthew Anderson to give the Invaders a 7-6 lead. LB Mike Hawkins recovered a fumble on Deep Impact’s next possession to give the ball back to the Invaders. Again, Hawkins led the Invaders to a score, capping the drive with a 30 yard strike to the left to Chaney on a seam route to give the Invaders a 13-6 lead. The 1 point conversion attempt was unsuccessful. The Invaders’ defense stiffened and held Deep Impact scoreless for the remainder of the first half. Hawkins led the Invaders on another scoring drive to open the second half. Again, completing passes to several receivers. Hawkins capped the scoring drive with a 19 yard strike to the right to TE Anthony Weekes on a seam route to put the Invaders up 19-6. The 1 point conversion attempt was unsuccessful. Deep Impact responded and JR led his team on a scoring drive, completing passes to several different receivers. JR closed the score to 19-12 with a 10 yard touchdown pass. The 1 point conversion attempt was unsuccessful, after nearly being intercepted by CB Greg Bryant. On the Invaders’ next possession QB Hawkins threw a costly interception, which gave Deep Impact an opportunity to win the game. Deep Impact capitalized on the opportunity and quickly drove in for a score, when JR completed a 5 yard TD pass to Matrix to close the gap to 19-18. The 2 point conversion attempt was unsuccessful and the Invaders were barely able to escape with a victory in a game they controlled. Again, the Invaders were led by outstanding play by their Rushers; Lawrence Upson, William Foster and Greg Kelly, and; outstanding play by Blocking Backs; Paul Berry, Aaron Kinchen and Danny Gay.
