“Twister Sisters” Meet Softball Champion Jessica Mendoza...

Mendoza Group On April 2nd our own Twister ladies Lauren Chars, Cassidy Kortendick, and Cheyenne Kortendick attended a hitting clinic with Jessica at Hitters Sportsplex in Middleton, Wisconsin. Here are some details from that experience: Jessica Mendoza has been a member of the Women’s National Softball Team since 2001.  In 2008, she was a silver medalist in the Beijing Olympic Games and was named Sportswoman of the year by the Women’s Sports Foundation.  Jessica is an American softball player of Mexican descent who won a gold medal at the 2004 Athens Olympics.  She also was a four-time first team All-American at Stanford University from 1999-2002.  She is thirty years old but can play softball just like the teens that she mentors. She taught our group specific details including; batting stance, bat position, negative load, balance on your finish, and the use of computerized vision systems to improve eye hand coordination.  We definitely learned some new things to help fine tune our skills but we learned a lot more than that.Jessica talked about making decisions as teenagers.  Her message included telling us that it is easy to be part of a group but we should surround ourselves with people who “believe” in us.   As Jessica showed us her live hitting capabilities we were all amazed as she practically hit the ball to the other side of the complex.  Her fast hands allowed her to hit balls far beyond the outfielders.  At the age of 30 Jessica continues to play for the USSSA Pride professional softball team from Kissimmee, Florida.
