2005 SAN DIEGO INTL TRI REPORT

SAN DIEGO, CA - Over 30 Multisports OC & Nova Masters raced at the 2005 San Diego Internation & Sprint Distance Triathons. Top male finisher from the team was Ian Pyott who placed 3rd overall to take home a $500 check. Jenifer Padilla was the top female finisher with a 4th place overall. Coach Michael Collins had the 3rd fastest amateur time and was 7th including pros in winning the 35-39 division (once one illegal finisher is removed). Brandy Bounds was the top amateur finisher for the team on her way to winning the 20-24 age group. Top 3 division finishers included Sarah Reinertsen 1st in challenged athletes, Rick Laird 2nd in Clydesdale, Becky Flaherty 3rd in 20-24, Louis Bednar 3rd in 30-34, & Klim Granovsky 3rd in 55-59. In the sprint distance event Amine Britel was 3rd overall and 1st in 35-39 despite a bike crash during the race. "Suprise Performance" of the race goes to Craig Conlee who dropped over an hour off his time from last year despite a wicked crash the day before. "Bad Descision of the Weekend" award also goes to Craig Conlee for causing the crash the day before the race which took down himself and several others when his shirt came untied from his bars and got sucked into his front wheel.(Put that on your list of things to never do again) For full results and splits click HERE. Brian has been coached in swimming for 20+ years. He played club soccer until the age of 13, when he began playing water polo. He also started cycling in his teens and began competing in triathlons in 2001. Triathlon was such a humbling experience it was no wonder it created such a spark. He finished his first Ironman (Ironman Canada) in 2004; His goals are to still compete in either Ironman or Double and Triple Ironman’s for the future, but is currently involved in Ultra Running. He completed his first official (has run non-officially more than 26.2 miles on several occasions) Ultramarathon (Mt. Disappointment 50k) August 13, 2005. For 2005 his plans are to do Run on the Sly 50 mile trail run on September 4th, 2005, and The Javelina Jundred 100 mile trail run on October 15th 2005. TECHNIQUE & CONDITIONING COACH & PROFESSIONAL TRIATHLETE Ian moved to California from Switzerland in 2003. He has competed as a triathlete since 1996, with a background as a swimmer and mountain biker. A swimmer since the age of 8 in the Swim Team Biel/Bienne Switzerland, in 1996 Ian was on the World Record holding team as a test pilot of Composite Speed designs breaking the Downhill speed World Record of 196,65 km/h. In 1997 he became the youngest member of the Swiss National Team. He is a 4 time Swiss National Champion (1999, 2000 Tri and Duathlon, 2001) and the Swiss National Series three times (2000 and 2001 Tri and Duathlon) Winner of the 2005 Desert Triathlon Olympic Distance, by 8 minutes, and three times winner of the Catalina Island Triathlon (2003-2005). Collins has over 30 years racing & coaching experience in swimming, cycling & running. He is a Level 5 Certified American Swimming Coaches Association Coach (highest level), Level 4 Pose Running Coach (highest level), and Fit Institute SlowTwitch Certified Bike Fitter. His specialty is technique and eficiency improvement, as well as race specific training.

Coach Louis started coaching with the program in June 2005. He comes from extensive experience in coaching novice level athletes. For the past 4 years, Louis has coached for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Soctiey’s Team in Training program. In preparation for his role, he completed a Dave Scott coaching certification program. With TnT he successfully trained over 600 athletes to compete in Olympic Distance Triathlons focusing on performance technique, proper nutrition, fast transitions and overall event preparation. Louis has been racing triathlons for 18 years and began his coaching career 4 years ago. An avid sports fan, he began competing at a young age both on Whittier Aquatek Aquahawks swim team and as All Calfornian Goal Keeper on his club soccer team. In 1989 Louis participated in the National High School Tri Championships in Maui, placing 6th overall. By 1991 he was invited to compete in the Triathlon Junior-Olympics. The 5-week program ended with an Olympic distance Triathlon where Louis placed 5th overall. Louis has continued to compete as a top age grouper in multiple distances in his adult life. An Ironman finisher, in 2004, he was the overall winner at Dam Sprint Triathlon and Steamboat Triathlon. He finished in the top 5 in 6 other races.
