Revision regarding the B Division Regular Season Final Standings
1. Currently the rule reads as follows:
RULE 21 The determination of record is based on total points (win=2, tie=1). In case two teams are tied in total points, the tiebreakers are, in order: Head-to-head won-loss record, Head-to-head total goals, Total goals scored against all teams for the year, Total goals scored minus total goals allowed against all teams for the year, Total games won against all teams for the year, and Coin toss.
This rule presupposes that all teams play an equal number of games. That is not the case this year. There have been some individuals who would like to utilize this rule as is despite the unequal number of games played. That would give the teams that played 25 games an unfair advantage. Others wish to approach the standings question by looking to winning percentage. Again, this puts some teams at a disadvantage. Furthermore, both proposed solutions do not give any weight to the intent of Rule 21.
The intent of Rule 21 is to rank the teams after playing an equal number of games, with each team playing the other an equal number of times. This season the only way to accomplish this is to have the first 5 games of the season for the original four (4) teams to be dropped from the regular season point totals, thus putting all five (5) teams on equal footing the seasons standing would be as follows:
Team Games Played W L T Total Points
White 20 15 3 2 32
Red 20 12 6 2 26
Green 20 11 7 2 24
Blue 20 4 16 2 10
Gold 20 3 15 2 8
Therefore, it is the opinion of the Hockey Committee, without any individuals involved in the B League that the White team finishes in first place, followed by Red, Green, Blue and Gold.
