DEA Battles Billerica to a 0-0 Tie

Posted by Dale Dubois at Oct 23, 2007 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

DEA and Billerica had a gruelling battle this past Sunday and would both come away with a point for the 0-0 tie.  Once again the league failed to provide us with a referee for the match.  Jerold was kind enough to step in after his game completed and ended up doing a better job than any referee we have had so far.  Billerica and Bedford both had chances in the first half and rang the ball off the cross bar.  Other than that the DEA defense shut down the Billerica attackers.  Paul Cote had an excellent game at left back.  He played aggressive and continued to beat the Rover players to the ball.  Great effort Mr. Cote.  Johnnie Morin also had a great game in the DEA net for the entire game.  John was forced to stuff a Billerica striker 1 on 1 in the second half. Great Job from the veteran keeper.

Not much more to say.  DEA strikers have not been their usual scoring machines this season.   Hopefully that will change as DEA still has a chance at the title.

Next Sunday, DEA travels down to West Roxbury to take on the Irish Village.  DEA got the best of the Irish in their first meeting and surprisingly the Village is sitting at the bottom of the division.  Game time is 10:00 AM and it takes about 1hour and 15 minutes to get there.

LETS SHOW UP TO KICK SOME A$$ !!!

Westford Drops DEA Hard -- 5-1

Posted by Dale Dubois at Oct 16, 2007 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

In the worst performance witnessed in a long time, DEA was pulverized by Westford last Sunday morning, 5-1 in Westford.  Bedford just could not get anything going and really played bad.

The first half was reasonable as Westford scored a fluke goal from a corner kick that went directly into the sun.  The attempted clearing header rang off the cross bar and out to a Westford player who sank it in.  The half would end 1-0 and DEA was definately still in the game although their play was definately sub-par.

The second half saw DEA totally unravel as Westford netted 4 in a row.  Late in the second half Jeff Guild would hit a nice side netting shot from the left side to at least put Bedford on the board.

Bad game... moving on now....

A must win this week against Billerica, who somehow is sitting in first.  The big field of Legacy will prove to be a different result for this match, which is slated to kick off this coming Sunday at 10:30 AM...

Danvers Edges Bedford 1-0

Posted by Dale Dubois at Oct 9, 2007 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Danvers has gotten the best of DEA this season as Bedford was edged out 1-0 on Sunday down in Danvers.  DEA could not get anything going on this tiny, lumpy, and bumpy field.  Bedford was also missing key players in the midfield that really showed in the lack of possession that we are used to seeing from DEA.  DEA's defense played well and did not let up too many shots and John Morin played well in net.  The one goal was scored on a ball the slipped through and was tapped in.  But that is all that was needed in this one as DEA could not buy a goal on this postage stamp sized field.

DEA did not loose any ground in the standings however, as Billerica dropped their game to Westford 1-0 also.  Bedford travels to Westford this Sunday for a 9:00 AM kickoff against the Grey Goats.  DEA will have a better travel squad for this game and the Westford pitch is much more suited to Bedford's style of play.

Scott Sharby was on fire as he netted the first three goals in a row to lead Bedford to an impressive 4-2 win over Peabody.  Before the game, Peobody was sitting ahead of DEA in the standings so everyone knew what needed to be done.  DEA keeper John Morin was on the sideline with an injury and both backups were unavailable.  JD would step up and put the gloves on and did an impressive job between the pipes.

Once again DEA came out on a scoring mission.  Sharby got things going right away as DEA took command of the game with very good passing and ball posession.  Jeff Guild would find Sharby with a good cross and Sharby finished nicely for Bedford all important first goal.  Rick Plichta would find Sharby 5 minutes later and again Sharby did not disappoint.  DEA was now up 2-0 and Peabody was in trouble.  DEA was really knocking the ball around and the defense led by Robbie and Dale in the middle with Joe Masci and Sean Kelly on the flanks, was excellent.  Again, DEA contolled the midfield with with Ed and Johnny V in the center mid positions.  At times there were 10 passes strung together in a row from one side to the other on the large pitch of Legacy.

Sharby was not done, as he would complete his hat trick at only the 35 minute mark.  This time, Peabody would take a goal kick and the ball would come right to the foot of Joe Masci who had moved into the midfield position.  Joe would one time it hard right to Sharby on the left side.  Scott then turned with the ball and hammered it into the net from 18 yards out, 3 Nil DEA.  Ed Ibanez, DEA strong central midfielder, decided that Sharby was having way too much fun and got into the act.  Bill Jean would get the assist as Ed hit a low hard shot passed the bewildered Peabody keeper.  It was now 4-0 and Peabody had no real threat of scoring.

The second half would be different, as Peobody made some changes in their lineup.  They would come out much stronger and finally get on the board with a nice side webbing shot that JD had no chance at saving.  JD did a great job in net but he had to leave to go coach his son's game.  Now what?  DEA had gone to its forth goal tender....  "Pelerin! Get in the Net" the GM commanded.  Jim would put on the gloves, grab his bag of cookies and hop in the DEA net.  Peobody was feeling some momentum and started to preasure Bedford.  They would net another one midway through the second half and things were getting a bit uneasy.  DEA would turn things around, as they would return to the short passing game and the momentum would swing the other way.  Johnnie Morin couldn't sit any longer and would jump in the net for the final 10 minutes of the game to seal the deal.  The final score would be 4-2 for DEA.

The win sent DEA into second place only 2 points behind Billerica who beat Danvers 1-0 the same day.  DEA heads to Danvers for a little payback this Sunday.  Danvers got the best of Bedford 3-2 in their first meeting in August.  DEA really beat themselves that game and are playing much better ball of late.  Game time is 9:00 AM in Danvers.

GREAT WIN DEA !!!!!

John Morin commanded the return of DEA to victory as they finally beat the Irish Village 2-1 at Legacy this past Sunday.  Morin would play the whole game in the net and was the key to victory as DEA was forced to hold on to the one goal lead late in the game.

DEA Showed up to play and had a mission.  The plan was to go up early and quick and don't let the Irish back into the game.  The first part worked like a charm as DEA put a powerhouse lineup on the field to start the game.  The lineup featured Captain McCall at the striker position, where he belongs, with the always dangerous Jeff Guild to his side.  New comer Ed Ibanez took over at the offensive center mid position with the talented John Valickus right behind him.  Robbie and Dale switched positions in the sweeper - stopper rolls.  Rob Easton would have an excellent game at sweeper, as he commanded the DEA defense.  Bedford was very strong up the middle and fast on the outsides with Sharby, Joe Masci at wing mids and JD and Steve Sarro at wing backs.

DEA came out on fire and scored a goal early as Jim McCall lofted a ball over the Irish Stopper to the feet of Jeff Guild.  The Heat took the ball and found all net for Bedford's all important first tally.   10 minutes later, Paul "I owe a 30 pack" Cote made a nice clearing header at midfield right to the feet of Captain McCall.   Jim turned on his defender and pushed the ball through.  Jim would regain controll and hit a nice side netting shot to put DEA up 2-0 only 20 minutes into the game.  The Irish felt a panic and they tried to get something going.  They had their chance too.  A missed offside call would lead to an Irish striker heading in 1 on 1 with the DEA keeper John Morin.  John would wait for that last push off the striker's foot and he would charge forward and go into his slide.  Morin totally stuffed the striker and found the ball neatly in his grasp.   Classic Johnnie Morin!!!  This brought cheers from the DEA bench and the Over 30 DEA team enjoying their 3rd half.  DEA was impressive and the half would end with Bedford up 2-0.

The second half would see more Irish offense as they were determined to get back into the game.  They rang one off the cross bar and John tipped another over the bar to keep them off the board.  However, the Irish is a good squad and they finally overloaded one side and managed to send on into the far netting, another missed offside call, too.  It was now 2-1 and plenty of time left.  Things got a bit choppy and Cote got a yellow.... 30 pack... did I say that already... hee hee.   Anyway, Corney the referee was determined to make a game of this and handed out another yellow to some unidentified player....and it was not Dale. The DEA defense would clamp down and hang on to the 2-1 victory.

Great game.  A must win and pivotable game for DEA who are now only two points behind the leader of the division.  This Sunday, Bedford takes on the Peabody Sporting Club.  Game time is 10:30 with a 3rd half BBQ to follow.

GREAT WIN DEA !!!!!!
