Bedford Pounds Peabody 4-2 -- Sharby Nets THREE -- DEA in 2nd Place and Heading for the TOP!!!

Posted by Dale Dubois on Oct 01 2007 at 05:00PM PDT

Scott Sharby was on fire as he netted the first three goals in a row to lead Bedford to an impressive 4-2 win over Peabody.  Before the game, Peobody was sitting ahead of DEA in the standings so everyone knew what needed to be done.  DEA keeper John Morin was on the sideline with an injury and both backups were unavailable.  JD would step up and put the gloves on and did an impressive job between the pipes.

Once again DEA came out on a scoring mission.  Sharby got things going right away as DEA took command of the game with very good passing and ball posession.  Jeff Guild would find Sharby with a good cross and Sharby finished nicely for Bedford all important first goal.  Rick Plichta would find Sharby 5 minutes later and again Sharby did not disappoint.  DEA was now up 2-0 and Peabody was in trouble.  DEA was really knocking the ball around and the defense led by Robbie and Dale in the middle with Joe Masci and Sean Kelly on the flanks, was excellent.  Again, DEA contolled the midfield with with Ed and Johnny V in the center mid positions.  At times there were 10 passes strung together in a row from one side to the other on the large pitch of Legacy.

Sharby was not done, as he would complete his hat trick at only the 35 minute mark.  This time, Peabody would take a goal kick and the ball would come right to the foot of Joe Masci who had moved into the midfield position.  Joe would one time it hard right to Sharby on the left side.  Scott then turned with the ball and hammered it into the net from 18 yards out, 3 Nil DEA.  Ed Ibanez, DEA strong central midfielder, decided that Sharby was having way too much fun and got into the act.  Bill Jean would get the assist as Ed hit a low hard shot passed the bewildered Peabody keeper.  It was now 4-0 and Peabody had no real threat of scoring.

The second half would be different, as Peobody made some changes in their lineup.  They would come out much stronger and finally get on the board with a nice side webbing shot that JD had no chance at saving.  JD did a great job in net but he had to leave to go coach his son's game.  Now what?  DEA had gone to its forth goal tender....  "Pelerin! Get in the Net" the GM commanded.  Jim would put on the gloves, grab his bag of cookies and hop in the DEA net.  Peobody was feeling some momentum and started to preasure Bedford.  They would net another one midway through the second half and things were getting a bit uneasy.  DEA would turn things around, as they would return to the short passing game and the momentum would swing the other way.  Johnnie Morin couldn't sit any longer and would jump in the net for the final 10 minutes of the game to seal the deal.  The final score would be 4-2 for DEA.

The win sent DEA into second place only 2 points behind Billerica who beat Danvers 1-0 the same day.  DEA heads to Danvers for a little payback this Sunday.  Danvers got the best of Bedford 3-2 in their first meeting in August.  DEA really beat themselves that game and are playing much better ball of late.  Game time is 9:00 AM in Danvers.

GREAT WIN DEA !!!!!
