Harvard Nudges DEA at Home 3-2

Another disappointment, but not a bad effort given the state of the team.  Ten minutes into the first half they got the first lucky break.  Their striker came across the front of the goal had a decent one on one shot, but Dave managed to cut in front and blocked the shot with his heel.  The ball popped up, hit the striker in the thigh and dropped right at his feet giving him an easy second chance.  Joe made a nice dive but the ball just made it under and in.

At half time Scot had to leave and that left us with no subs.  Brother John was limping around with a acre of ace bandages holding him together and Jeff D. was suffering from dehydration.  At least 7 players had significant injuries and by the end of the we had Jimmy (groin) and Derek (thigh) playing fullback and anybody who could put together a run going forward when they could.  Despite all that we were actually dominating the time of possession and keeping the ball in their end.  However, they nailed us on two break aways, lobs over the line and since they could still run they were able to convert the one on one's against the keeper.  We didn't quit though, which says a lot, and driving hard from his new position as strong stopper, Derek hit a hard corkscrewing shot from above the box.   The keep was able to block it, but not control it and Herman was there to tap it in to make it 3-1.  As the game neared the end, Herman popped a ball up to Dave in the midst of several Harvard players.  Dave took the first bounce at gut level, the second at knee height, the hit a shot at the right post from just outside the box.  The goalie made a nice dive and got a hand on it, but couldn't keep it out of the net.

Third half was a clear victory, and eventually moved on to Jeff's to avoid the parade and help with the Jayfest leftovers.

Unfortunately, with only 30 seconds left, Harvard was able to run out the clock and get the win, 3-2.  Three games to go and we need everyone there.   This team is being held together by guts, ace bandages, ibuprofen and beer.  But we're still in every game and have some good wins left in us!
