Say It Isn't So ---- DEA ties Burlington and Gets Relegated To D5

Posted by Dale Dubois on Jun 10 2012 at 05:00PM PDT
What's there to say about a season that disappointed like this one?  We went out and scored five goals.  It should have been enough, but wasn't and we got another tie.  Joe provided his usual outstanding effort in goal along with some offensive help.  The first goal was long punt by Joe to Herman's head, well placed from there to Scott who pushed it through for Jimmy to finish.  The second was a great solo effort by Jeff G, coming down the right wing, then curling in along the baseline and beating the goalie.  Number three was a hard low spinning corner by Jimmy, the keeper tried to clear it with his foot but the spin was enough to send it in.  Number four was a one on one, Mo and the goalie, Mo won.  Number five was another great punt by Joe, defender went to collect it but strong pressure by Jeff meant he didn't have time to collect it and he tried to head it back to the keeper.  Instead it went over him and Jeff tapped it in.

Their final goal seemed to typify the season.  One of their forwards collected the ball near midfield.  Dave went to contain him and their player pushed it to the side to try and go by.  Dave blocked it, but it bounced right back to the forward's feet and he collected it.  Jimmy had moved into position by then and was there to block and had his foot on the ball, but lost his footing and went down.   As the forward took the shot, John V moved to block it and managed to deflect the shot.  Of course that was just enough to deflect it past Joe who was positioning for the original shot.

Injuries and lack of bodies were our major downfall this season.  Get in shape this summer.  Try your best to make as many games as you can.  And if you know a good goal keeper, call him up so Joe and Steve can get back to where they'd like to play.  They both gave great efforts this season, but they shouldn't have to.

Many thanks to our number 1 fan Michele for the great support all season and organizing the cookout after the last game.
