DEA is on a Roll with Another Shut Out Victory Over North Reading 4-0

Posted by Dale Dubois on Oct 23 2006 at 05:00PM PDT
DEA secures another "W". With the absence of our regular and back-up keeper, DEA had to reach down and look for the biggest guys to step-up into goal. We found them in Stan and Nick Masci(returning for his 1st game back this season). Both keepers played supremely in net sharing halves and allowing no goals. We have not seen such movement and light feet from our traditional forward Stan, but he was all over anything close to the net. Nick Masci on the other hand could be heard with every touch and play, calling for the ball several times to be played back to him, pressured or not he didn't care. No goals were seen in the first half, but things broke open in the second. John Guild stuck first with one of his two goals on the day. Just in from the English Premier League in England was the highly recruited center back David Poole. Dave playing both ends of the field today, sent a bending pass through the defensive end finding the feet of John out on the left wing. John stuck a low driving shot past the keeper to get DEA on the plus side. Not to be out done by "Brother", Jeff Guild scored the next one, on a similar through ball pass from Jim McCall. Coming out from his first half in goal and into the field Stan proving his worth in any spot provided the assist to John Guilds second goal. John could have had a few more, he finally settled down after receiving another through ball pass on the left and striking the ball as hard as he could, only to find the corner flag (a bit wide of the goal). The final goal of the game, which ended up more controversial than it looked, started with a mid field pass from Doug to Jim McCall, McCall drove towards the goal was knocked by the Cobras sweeper. Jim ended up with the ball while the sweeper fell to the ground. McCall struck a low near corner shot beating the keeper. After the play accusations of intended contact flew by the defender laying on the ground, this led to several Cobra's getting in Jim's face, while McCall tried to apologize for any unintentional contact only heating up the situation more. Paul Cote watching events unfold, could be heard saying, your not me Jim get out of there. Breaking News - Rumors are now heavily flying of the intended retirement of mad man keeper extraordinaire James Goddard. It has been said he will end this fall season and complete his career with our last fall game. Jim has been a rock in goal, knocks the ball a mile, and shows no fear in his position. Stay tuned for more on this.
