DEA Captures the Division Championship with a 6-1 Victory Over Burlington

Posted by Dale Dubois on Jun 14 2006 at 05:00PM PDT
Like the Jefferson's, we're "moving on up". Next stop Division 5. With the single goal of winning the last game to guarantee the division title, team DEA rolled over the competition. A crew of 14 showed up to play on the postage stamp field hosted by Burlington. With a lack of defenders for the game, the team needed to be all about the offense. Power house Nick Masci (challenged by the GM)led the way by scoring the first goal after stealing the ball from a defender then knocking one past the keeper. Nick, after clanging the crossbar and sending several shots just wide, also scored the teams 4th goal when he was tripped up in the penalty area, then putting the PK away. The second goal of the game came on a pass from Jim McCall to John Guild with a nice shot into the corner. Nick, again burning up the offense, sent a nice field changing wide ball to Jim McCall who shoots a high upper corner 35 yarder over the frozen keeper. Jeff Guild, not to be outdone on the day, took 2 goals in the second half with both low hard inside shots past the keeper. The first one being feed by George, then the next by Stan. Burlington managed to squeeze one in somewhere in there, but they were outmatched on this day. Having to do some defensive duties for the game were John V. playing a great controlling game at Stopper. Mitch Green controlling the D, as always, with solid help from Sean, Doug, and Bruce in the back field. Final score 6 - 1 GM Notes: A great finish to a great regular season. DEA scored a record 44 goals in the 10 game season and only gave up 14 for a whopping +30 Goal Differential. This is a new DEA record and led the League by far. DEA will look to bring this offensive fire power into the first round of the playoffs, this Sunday in Bedford at 10 AM. DEA will take on the runner up of the southern division, who has yet to be determined. It will either be Newton or Franklin who battle each other later this evening. Which ever team it is, they had better bring their "A" team to play DEA or suffer the consequences.
