DEA Suffers First Loss to Irish Village 3-2

Posted by Dale Dubois on May 07 2007 at 05:00PM PDT
No matter how hard the referee tried to ruin the game with his horrible officiating, DEA and the Irish Village still had a great battle. The Irish Village would squeek out a victory in the final minutes however, 3-2 to put DEA back to 2nd place in the standings. The wind would play a big roll in this match as it was blowing from one end to the other. This combined with the quickness of the turf field and a half inflated ball made it a different game all together. The Irish would get the wind advantage in the first half and would keep DEA locked in there end for the majority of the half. They would score the first goal off a ripping shot from 25 yards out. DEA would come right back as the referee would award his first of three PK's on the day to DEA. This one was for a hand ball in the area. Captain Jim McCall would hammer home the PK and knot the score at 1 a piece. DEA would happily make it to half time tied as they would gain the important wind advantage for the second half. The second half started slow as DEA was still playing long ball on the quick turf. This was found to be ineffective and the Irish continued their short ball game which went well with the wind in their face. The referee took over now and called a PK on DEA on a contriversial call. As the Irish lined up to take the kick, Rob Easton pointed out to the ref that their players were inside the semicircle prior to the kick. The kick was taken anyway and Randy made the save but the ball rebounded out to a player that was inside the area and he hammered it in. The ref did not have the balls to call it back and awarded the goal to the Irish. DEA would come right back however. Dale Dubois would take a feed back from John Morin and hit a cross over to Scott Sharby. Sharby would volley home the equalizer for DEA. Play would get chippy as both sides tried for the win. The Irish would dive a few times and finally get the referee to call yet another PK against DEA. Randy would save yet another PK but this time their was noone cheating inside the box and the ball was cleared right into the throat of the ref. It was really hard to ask if he was ok as he certainly desearved it. DEA would battle to the final minutes of play and was happy to leave with the one point, when disaster struck. A failed clear on a ball on the right side of DEA net would be crossed into the area by the Irish. It would take an awkward bounce and Randy would not field it clean. The Irish striker would poke home the winner. Very disappointing finish for DEA. Next match will be different when they have to travel up to play in Bedford. DEA takes on Ipswich Town FC next at home at Legacy field this Sunday following the Over 30 game. Kickoff is slated for 10:30.
