EAST CRAIGIE v MONTROSE ROSELEA
McBOOKIE.COM NORTH DIVISION
SAT OCT 13th 2012

Roselea still smarting from their defeat at Forfar West End headed to Craigie Park facing an equally tough proposition in undefeated East Craigie. The Dundee side have had their best start in years having won all four of their League games and look to be dark horses in the title race. To add to Roselea woes Calum Watson looks like being out with an ankle injury sustained in last weeks match for some time and joined Ryan Taylor on the sidelines. Colin Kennedy & Chris Milne were unavailable due to holidays however on the plus side Jo Reoch returned from holiday and Danny Ross from work commitments. Two Amateur Trialists made up the bench.

Roselea: Mcleod, P Taylor, Reoch, Whyte, Ross, Rae, Anderson, Cruickshank, Collier & Fletcher. Subs:Craig, Allan, Riach, Trialist & Trialist.

Despite the heavy rain on Friday Craigie Park was in excellent condition and reasonably firm with many other games in the city being off. Roselea started brightly and Cruickshank crossed to Collier in 3 minutes, he then layed the ball back into the path of the incoming Fletcher but his shot was screwed wide from 12 yards. Fletcher then had an opportunity with a free kick from 25 yards out but his shot lacked the power to beat Logie in the home goal.

Both teams were knocking the ball about well however it was not until the 14th minute that the next chance came along and it was East Craigie who took the lead. A free kick was awarded near the corner flag and when Roselea failed to clear their lines Darren GRAY wasted no time in despatching a shot from close range into the net.

Roselea tried to claw their way back into the game and the next chance fell to James Collier in 17 minutes. Michael Cruickshank chipped the ball into Anderson who had made a great run into the box and Collier connected to the pass back but his shot rose just over the bar.

East Craigie then hit Roselea back and Scrimegour had a shot blocked for Paul Whyte for a corner.

Roselea then passed up a gilt edged chance to square things up on 27 minutes. Cruickshank picked the ball up on the half way line before setting Bob Urquhart away beating the offside trap however he elected to pull the trigger just outside the box and shot wide when he could have progressed further.

Collier had another shot inside the box after linking up with Fletcher but his low left foot shot was well held by Logie.

Roselea went in at half time 2-0 down after conceding a goal that should have been prevented. A free kick was flighted in to the Roselea box and with both defenders and goalkeeper static, Craig SCRIMEGOUR volleyed in off the post from 6 yards. Just before the whistle Roselea made a substitution with a Trialist replacing Urquhart.

Half Time: East Craigie 2 Roselea 0

Roselea started the second half slowly and only a booking for the Trialist prevented Birmingham breaking free for Craigie.

East Craigie had a great chance to increase their lead in 59 minutes when Rae got on the wrong side of his man and his shot goal bound shot was deflected behind for a corner. The corner broke to Norrie however his shot was off target.

East Craigie should have put the game beyond the reach of Roselea when Hart had only Jo Reoch to beat on the line but somehow managed to strike his shot against the defenders chest with appeals for a penalty. In 63 minutes Ross Mcleod had to make a great double save from Birmingham then Hart’s follow up effort as Craigie continued to pile on the pressure.

Roselea sent on their second Trialist for Ross in 64 minutes.

Roselea were awarded a free kick for yet another foul on Collier in 67 minutes. Craig Anderson sent in a great curling shot and was very unlucky to see the ball hit the side netting with a few supporters thinking it had gone in.

Roselea made their third change with Graeme Allan replacing Craig Anderson in 79 minutes.

Cruickshank had a rasping shot tipped over the bar by Logie in 84 minutes as Roselea tried to claw their way back into the game.

Final Score: East Craigie 2 Montrose Roselea 0

Referee: Michael Gill

This was a sore defeat for Roselea who came up against a very hard working Craigie side who deserved their win and it maintains their 100% start to the League. Roselea seemed to be lacking confidence and desire which their opponents had in abundance. Roselea now head to Larkhall for the Emirates Scottish Junior Cup 2nd Round tie against Royal Albert who were idle after their game with Kilbirnie was postponed.
