FORFAR ALBION v MONTROSE ROSELEA

McBOOKIE.COM NORTH LEAGUE

SAT NOV 26th 2011

Roselea travelled to Guthrie Park, Forfar in search of their eighth straight League win. The travelling party was minus Calum Rae due to injury and Colin Kennedy who was unavailable. If Roselea needed any reminders that they should not take Albion lightly they needed only to reflect to last February when they were beaten 4-0 and started the downfall of their Title challenge.

Roselea: Mcleod, Colquhoun, R Taylor, Reoch, Whyte, Urquhart, Anderson, Mustard, Hood, Collier & Fletcher. Subs: Aitken, Riach, Rodger, P Taylor, Brand & Craig.

Roselea kicked off on a very pitch which had to be rolled and spiked to get it into a playable position. In a mirror image of the start to the game in 2010 Roselea almost took the lead in 10 seconds when a Colquhoun ball sent Urquhart away on the right wing and his low cross almost sneaked in at the far post. Albion had scored in identical fashion in the previous match between the sides.

It did not take Roselea much longer to break the deadlock and they did so in the fifth minute. Mustard set Hood away and he in turn passed the ball into the path of COLLIER who took a touch before turning his man and sending a low shot into the net.

Hood almost got in on the scoring act a minute later when he cut in from the left and his goalwards shot was deflected behind for a corner. The ball broke out from the corner to Colquhoun who chested the ball down and volleyed making Millar in the home goal almost spill the ball into the path of two Roselea strikers.

Urquhart’s pace was causing Albion problems and he stripped Miller before putting in a low cross which Millar palmed out but Hood & Collier were already beyond the ball anticipating the keeper to miss.

Albion had their first real attack in 12 minutes and Fullertons header in the direction of Black caused Mcleod to scramble for the ball which he eventually got under his control.

Roselea thought they had been hard done by as Stewart Fletcher broke into the box and looked for an “advantage” to be played however after he had been fouled the referee correctly pulled play back as Fletcher had handled following the original offence.

Roselea doubled the lead on 15 minutes with a goal from Stewart FLETCHER who picked up a ball from Lee Hood at the edge of the box and side stepped his man before sending a low shot into the net from 18 yards.

Play was then bogged down on a very difficult surface as both teams struggled to play open football. The next action was on 31 minutes when Riach had to replace Whyte who picked up an injury. Roselea had to shuffle the pack with Mustard dropping back and Riach playing in midfield.

Lee Hood was set on his way by Ryan Taylor and best his man before sending over a dangerous cross which was headed behind for a corner.

In 39 minutes Forfar Albion had a great chance to get a goal back and get back into the game. Black got room to attach down Roseleas left hand side and he passed into the path of Fullerton who shot just over. Albion then passed up their best chance of the half when Black found room at the back post from a free kick and managed to screw his shot wide when he should at least have hit target.

Albion finished the half stronger and a run from Mcintosh who did look offside saw him square the ball and Reynolds almost connected as he slid in at the far post.

Half Time: Forfar Albion 0 Montrose Roselea 2

Roselea opened strongly in the second period and Urquhart again showed his pace as he was in on Millar but tried to chip the advancing keeper who managed to get his body to the ball and blocked.

Roselea had the ball in the net again on 58 minutes but it was harshly chalked off after keeper Millar spilled the ball onto the head of Collier who was alleged to have fouled the home keeper.

Roselea made it 3-0 in 71 minutes after a sticky patch where they seemed to lose their shape in midfield. Good passing between Anderson and Colquhoun saw the full back get to the bye-line and his cut back was well finished by HOOD who scored his second goal in two games.

Colquhoun almost got his name on the scoresheet in 75 minutes with a good strike which Millar did well to save at the first attempt.

Paul Taylor replaced Collier on 76 minutes then Rodger then replaced Hood in 77 minutes.

Albion had one last attempt but there was to be little goalmouth action in the last phase of the match with Roselea content to see the game out and claim the three points.

Full Time: Forfar Albion 0 Montrose Roselea 3

Another good win for Roselea making it eight wins on the trot. This keeps the pressure up on Dundee Violet who were busy knocking Ballingry Rovers out of the Junior Cup in Dundee. Roselea now sit 2 points behind the leaders having played one more match. Roselea face a tough trip to Ogilvy Park Arbroath to face Arbroath Vics in the League on Saturday Dec 3rd. Kick Off is at 1.45pm.
