MONTROSE ROSELEA v DALKEITH THISTLE

MCBOOKIE.COM EAST PREMIER LEAGUESAT OCT 4TH 2014 Roselea entertained Dalkeith Thistle in an East Premier League at Broomfield Park. The sides had met at the same venue four weeks ago with the home side having a very comprehensive 3-0 win. Both sides were toiling for numbers and named Trialists on the bench. Roselea had no fewer than 7 players missing with Ryan & Paul Taylor and Morgan Smith on holiday, James Collier & Paul Whyte injured, Kyle Findlater ill, Andy Tringham working. Craig Anderson who had also been ill all week made the starting line up.  With several games postponed in Tayside due to the heavy rain there was no such problems at Broomfield and the pitch was in great condition.

Roselea: Mcleod, Rae, Reoch, Thomson, Cruickshank, Mitchell, Anderson, McDowell, Reid, Bailey & Watson. Subs: Trialist, Trialist and Brand.

There was a disaster for home keeper Mcelod in 5 minutes. He came to catch a LALLY cross ball and got himself ahead of the ball which squirmed off his hands and into the net for a welcome opener for Dalkeith. Roselea had a couple of half chances in the next 5 minutes. Watson played a great ball behind the Dalkeith left back and Mitchell got in but a great tackle prevented him shooting with Roselea having half hearted attempts for a penalty claim. Watson then got on the end of a Cruickshank inswinging free kick but again a great block prevented a goal. Dalkeith had a great chance to make it two nil when Waters flicked a free kick on and it came back off the post when the ball fell to Lally it took two great saves from Mcelod, the second being a wonder save to prevent a goal. There was two booking for Mitchell and Watson of Roselea however Morris of Dalkeith who also committed a couple of fouls before kicking the ball away escaped to the annoyance of the Roselea support. In 18 minutes Reid was just off target for Roselea when he headed a Rae cross goalwards. Reid then played a ball over the top after a corner and set Mitchell away after breaking the offside trap but his early ball failed to find a Roselea shirt in the box. In 40 minutes Dalkeith had another chance when Moffat got to the byeline and sent in an inviting cross which Mcleod took off the head of the arriving Lally with Dalkeith claiming some contact. Roselea looked like they were clawing their way back into the game but they were hit by a sucker punch second goal right on the stroke of half time. Lally nutmegged a Roselea defender in the corner before cutting the ball back to MOFFAT who stroked the ball home from 18 yards.

Half Time: Montrose Roselea 0 Dalkeith Thistle 2

Roselea started the second half brightly and were looking for a way back into the game. Cruickshank picked the ball up midway inside the Dalkeith half and whipped in another great ball but Reid’s header went just over the bar. Roselea were having plenty of possession however they lacked a cutting edge against a Dalkeith defence who were not willing to make things easy for the home side and defended well in the low sun. There was a long stoppage midway through the second half when Murray of the visitors went down after a tackle from Dale Reid. Despite being carried off the pitch he was back in action a couple of minutes later. McNeill broke for Dalkeith and only a great tackle from Thomson prevented him getting a shot away in 77 minutes. There was to be two chance’s for Roselea in stoppage time when Thomson had  a header well saved by visiting keeper Paterek. When the corner came in Dale Reid struck a great shot only for the keeper to save well again. It was not going to be Roselea’s day.

Full Time: Montrose Roselea 0 Dalkeith Thistle 2

This was a hugely disappointing result against a Dalkeith side which was also struggling for bodies. The early goal and the killer blow right on half time meant that the points were justified in going to the visitors. They were certainly there for the taking however Roselea’s personnel problems did not help their cause. After eight games Roselea now sit with four points and they will have to start picking up points quickly to get back into contention.Match Sponsors Sharpness Shipyard chose Michael Cruickshank as their Man of the Match. Roselea have two tough matches coming up with a trip to League leaders Dundonald Bluebell on Sat Oct 11th then a home League match to Glenrothes on Sat Oct 18th. Roselea have Hospitality available for the Glenrothes match.
