MONTROSE ROSELEA v FORFAR ALBION

EAST REGION NORTH DIVISION

SAT OCT 2nd 2010

Roselea continued their League pursuit with another home match against pointless Forfar Albion who propped up the League table. With Dundee Violet on Scottish Cup duty it gave the home side the chance to move clear of their co Leaders. Illness robbed Roselea the services of the on form Calum Rae and he was replaced by Ewan Graham who came back into the side.

Roselea: Mcleod, Mustard, Whyte, Graham, Doug Craig, Kennedy, Reoch, Urquhart, Hood, Collier & Watson. Subs: Riach, Aitken, Reid, Miller, David Craig & Brand

Roselea opened brightly and Gordon in the Albion goal had to turn a deep Craig free kick round for a corner in the 2nd minute. In 6 minutes Collier had a great chance to give Roselea the lead when he broke through and with the keeper off his line Collier chipped the ball just wide of the far post.

McIntosh had a good run for Albion but his effort was well off target from a narrow angle.

Roselea took the lead in 14 minutes. Hood had been fouled twice before the referee awarded a free kick and Collier headed Doug Craig’s inswinging free kick home from close range.

Roselea doubled their lead in 22 minutes with a great goal from Robert Urquhart. Mustard took a very intelligent quick throw to Hood and Collier picked up the ball and layed it into the path of Urquhart who hit a tremendous 25 yard shot into the top right hand corner.

Whyte had a downward header from A Kennedy corner cleared by a defender. In 35 minutes another Doug Craig free kick found Whyte whose header was blocked and when the ball broke back to him his shot was then cleared off the line.

Albion were not lying down and Smith had a snapshot when the ball broke from a corner, the ball cannoned off a Roselea defender before being turned behind by Craig. A long throw in also troubled Roselea a minute later and Whytes headed clearance fell perfectly for McIntosh who hit a strong shot which was blocked by Graham.

Half Time Roselea 2 Forfar Albion 0

Roselea had a good chance in 49 minutes when Urquhart found himself in bags of room and elected to chip just over the bar with Collier square and screaming for the ball. Roselea started the half well and Collier played the ball back to Kennedy who saw his 35 yard shot smack of the bar in 51 minutes.

Collier had his own chance in 65 minutes and his chip found Hood who chipped it back to Collier who in turn had a another chip before the ball went out for a corner.

Forfar Albion broke straight to the other end and sub Reynolds had a great shot hit the outside of the post to show Roselea that the game was far from over.

Collier had another chance in 75 minutes but his shot was just outside the right hand upright after he lost his balance. Craig Watson took a sore one as he tried to shoot and was replaced by Riach.

Roselea got the decisive 3rd goal in 83 minutes with a very simple goal. Mcleod cleared his lines and the ball was sent 70 yards in the air to Collier who took the ball down with an excellent touch before curling a low shot round the keeper and into the net.

In 85 minutes Aitken replaced Collier.

There was very little action and the referee played 3 extra minutes before calling a halt to proceedings.

Final Score: Montrose Roselea 3 Forfar Albion 0

As with the Coupar Angus match the previous week Roselea were not overly tested and did enough to merit the win. Whilst being in control they did not seem to have the extra impetus to put the game to bed early. With 13 goals for and none against they are shaping Broomfield Park to be a hard place to get a result.

Roselea now have a free week with there being an odd number of teams in the League but return to action with a home game against Luncarty in the GA Cup on October 16th then Downfield come to Broomfield to play a League match on the 23rd. Roselea will offer Hospitality packages for both these games.

Broomfield Park will also host the Tay Valley Trophy Final between local amateur side Merpro and Douglas SC on Sat Oct 9th. The match kicks off at 2pm and Roselea will offer Hospitality from 12.30 at a cost of £30pp. Full details available and booking via Roy Gill on 07908 763219.
