MCBOOKIE.COM EAST PREMIER LEAGUE

SAT OCT 17th 2015

Roselea travelled to Paties Road, Edinburgh to face bottom side Edinburgh Utd as they returned to Premier League action for another week with the Scottish Cup tie at Bonnyrigg Rose looming the following week. Roselea were sitting 10th out of 16 sides after nine games played but a game in hand over a few sides and were looking to capitalise. The sides drew 2-2 there last season in what was Roselea's final match and saw them safely stay up. Roselea had the usual personnel changes with Andrew Tringham missing due to his wedding day, Jack Dalgarno was on holiday, Calum Watson and Ross Mitchell missed out through injury. On the plus side Callum Rae returned from injury and Michael Cruickshank, Steven Smith & Grant Mowatt all returned from Tartan Army duties in the Algarve.

Roselea: Mcleod, Rae, Campbell, Sturrock, Whyte, Thomson, S Smith, Anderson, McDowell, Cruickshank & Collier. Subs M Smith, R Taylor, S Greig & Mowatt

jury worries and Andrew Tringham will miss the match for a very viable reason, it is his wedding day!In 6 minutes after a good start from the home team it was Roselea who had a double chance when Collier combined well to set up Cruickshank who had his shot saved by the feet of Easton in the home goal. The ball came straight back in to the middle and Collier was unlucky to see his header come back off the post.

In 10 minutes the home side then hit the post when Auriemma was through on goal following a bad pass from McDowell but he slid the ball past Mcleod only to the see the woodwork thwart him.

There was a big scare for Roselea in 12 minutes when Mcleod came out of his box to clear a back pass and completely missed it on the bobbly pitch, Elliot picked up the loose ball but only managed to hit the back end of Mcleod as he attempted to shoot.

Roselea had a great move in 18 minutes which saw Campbell send in one of his text book crosses, with three Roselea players attacking the ball it was a slight touch from Collier that took the ball away from Whyte.

It could easily have been 2-2 in the opening minutes however it was the home side who took the lead in 20 minutes with a well taken goal. ELLIOT evaded three tackles with the quick feet he showed in the game to create an opening and slotted home from 10 yards

In a total end to end game Michael Cruickshank had a great chance to equalise but again was thwarted by a brilliant save from young home keeper Easton

Roselea won a series of corners and in an obvious well worked moved Collier was left with space at the back post for a  diving header however with the goal at his mercy he headed the ball downwards and over the bar.

In 34 minutes Collier was unlucky when he capitialised on a mistake by Devlin of Utd looked to be in on goal however some overzealous refereeing saw a foul being awarded when it was a clear mistake by the defender.

The game was turned on its head in 35 minutes with a very harsh red card for Roselea. Craig Sturrock was late with a tackle and was certainly not off the ground or two footed and was dismissed. At most it was a booking which was a view shared by the home Officials.

Just as the day was looking dire for Roselea they were handed a well deserved break. A great ball from Collier sent Cruickshank away and when he was faced one on one with keeper Easton the young stopper again saved with his feet however the ball ricochet off DEVLIN for an own goal.

HALF TIME: EDINBURGH UTD 1 MONTROSE ROSELEA 1

In a slower start to the second half Scott Mcdowell foraged into the Edinburgh box however his left shot seen yet another great save from Easton.

In 57 minutes Callum Rae had to do his corner duties when he cleared a goalbound header off the line.

In 62 minutes the referee awarded what seemed like a very harsh penalty against Whyte for a handball from close range. NWANZE did not want to debate and converted the kick with ease.

It was to get worse for Roselea in 67 minutes when STEVENS hit a driller of a shot which took a slight deflection into the net to kill Roselea.

In 71 minutes there was a melee in the box following a scramble for the ball. Whyte left the field with a cut eye and had to be replaced by Morgan Smith.

Roselea made two more changes in a bid to get back into the game with Greig on for Anderson in 73 and Taylor for S Smith in 77 minutes.

Roselea were still in the game however a summary of their day was when Grieg did so well to disposess Edinburgh and cut in to give Taylor an open goal however his pass was short and an Edinburgh defender came in to clear.

Full Time: Edinburgh Utd 3 Montrose Roselea 1

Roselea will rue the amount of chances the had on what was a very uneven surface and the red card and penalty decisions did turn the game in the favour of the home side. Roselea drop a place to 11th however looking at the table it is starting to look like being two halves of promotion and relegation at this stage. There were some good and bad performances from the boys in green with Arron Thomson being the star Roselea performer.

Roselea need to pick themselves up with another tough trip to Edinburgh for a Scottish Junior Cup tie at Bonnyrigg Rose. Rose sit fourth in the East Superleague and a tough tie is expected.
