MONTROSE ROSELEA v COUPAR ANGUS

EAST REGION NORTH LEAGUE

SAT SEPT 25th 2010

Roselea looked to preserve their 100% League record at home to Coupar Angus at home on Saturday. With it being a top v bottom clash the outcome was expected to go Roselea’s way but Coupar Angus had ran fellow leaders Violet close the previous Saturday with a 3-2 loss after leading 2-0 with 25 minutes to go. Roselea entered the match with no real injury worries and new signing James Collier made his full home debut after moving from Links Park.

Roselea: Mcleod, Mustard, Whyte, Doug Craig, Reoch, Rae, Kennedy, Watson, Collier, Hood & Urquhart. Subs: Aitken, Barclay, Miller, McKellar, Strachan, Reid & Riach

In blustery conditions Roselea kicked off into the wind and made a good start putting their visitors on the back foot. A dangerous Craig inswinging free kick found Collier but he just failed to connect at the near post. The same player went close again twice in the first five minutes with visiting keeper having one great stop with his feet.

Although Roselea were on top it wasn’t until the 23rd minute that the next chance came and it was for Coupar Angus. Roselea were caught high up the park at a corner and Storrier had a long range effort well saved by Mcleod.

Doug Craig played a great one two with Kennedy and his shot form the angle was just over the bar in 25 minutes. Roselea finally took the lead on the half hour mark. Rae played a wonderful ball over the head of fullback Deuchars and HOOD got his nose in front, cut in and sent a great left foot shot into the corner of the net. Hood had another chance but this time his left footed shot did not have the bite to trouble Bell in the goals.

In 38 minutes Coupar Angus were reduced to 10 men when substitute Blackwood received a second yellow card and had the best of the showers.

Roselea looked to take advantage and almost did with some great play. Reoch did well to keep the ball in and played a great first time pass up the line to Hood and his cross almost found the head of Watson before the ball was turned behind for a corner. Urqhart almost got his head to the corner from close range from close range.

Half Time Roselea 1 Coupar Angus 0

In 47 minutes there was an almighty stramash in the visitors box after Hood had cut the ball back to Collier whose shot was blocked on the line, the ball then broke and somehow Coupar Angus managed to get it cleared with some valiant defending.

On 47 minutes Hood again showed great pace and sent in a cross which Collier chested to Watson and his shot was blocked for a corner. Strachan replaced Kennedy in 65 minutes.

Urquhart then had a great volley touched onto the post by Bell before it was turned behind for a corner. In 68 minutes Riach replaced Watson. Collier & Riach both had chances but they could just not get the break in the box to make the scoreline more comfy for Roselea.

Scott went on a long run for Coupar Angus and his shot was not far away as Roselea let the tempo slip.

Substitute Strachan made the points safe for Roselea with a great run and cross which gave RIACH a close in header to make it 2-0. A minute later COLLIER made the scoreline more respectable when he finished high into the net and past the advancing Bell after Urquhart had played a perfect pass to him.

Full Time Roselea 3 Coupar Angus 0

Roselea made heavy work of this however the conditions did not help. A feisty visiting team were not going to lie down and frustrated the home team even with 10 men. A second goal was going to be key and it was a long time in coming but after that there was only going to be one outcome.

Next week Roselea continue on League business with another home match against Forfar Albion which kicks off at 2.30pm. Roselea have a free week at the moment on October 9th although that may change if Scottish Cup 1st Round matches produce some replays. Luncarty will visit Broomfield on Oct 16th in a GA Cup 1st Round tie and Roselea will offer the usual Hospitality deals, please contact Roy Gill on 07908 763219.
