2nd HALF SEES THORNTON OFF

Posted by Roy Gill on Oct 02 2015 at 05:00PM PDT

Montrose Roselea 2-0 Thornton Hibs

Roselea collected a crucial 3 points after a good second half performance ensured a victory over newly promoted Thornton Hibs.

Collier and Tringham were available again and both took their place on the bench.

Truth be told the opening third of the first half was pretty dire with both teams seemingly cancelling each other out as ball possession seemed priority over creating opportunities.

It took until the 23rd minute for either team to have registered an effort on target. Hepburn of Hibs struck a half volley from 30 yards out which was comfortably saved by McLeod.

Roselea had the best chance of the half after 30 minutes. Mowatt played Anderson in on goal but Rowbotham stood tall for the shot and saved well from the wingers strike.

Mcnab of Thornton was showing great feet and causing Roselea problems. He looked to have read a back pass gone wrong but McLeod was very alert to come out and clear the danger.

Thornton had one more chance before half time when Wilson caught a sweet strike from outside the box but it fizzed past the post.

Half time

It was a disappointing half for the home team and they knew they had to up their game if they were going to come away with anything.

Mowatt had a half chance when he turned well just outside the box but leant back as he went to strike and saw his effort sail over the bar.

Roselea made their first change after 67 minutes which went on to change the course of the match when Greig made way for Collier.

Thornton had a rare chance in the second half when Crichton created a bit of space for himself to shoot but Whyte slid in brilliantly to thwart the away player.

Roselea were holding the ball up well further up the park as they looked to open up the away defence but just couldn't get the slice of luck they needed.

Campbell came on for Rae after 78 minutes.

Roselea finally opened the scoring their second half play had deserved. Collier chested down well and passed to Anderson who was now playing a central role. ANDERSON shimmied and created space for a shot and swept the ball brilliantly into the far corner to give the keeper no chance.

The home team doubled their lead with a gift from the away side. Taylor played a long searching ball up top and as a McGowan headed back to try find his keeper it went over Rowbotham head and into the empty net.

Tringham then replaced McDowell.

Roselea had one more chance to put more shine on the scoreline when Cruickshank squared for Campbell but it was just a little too pacey for the sub to direct the ball into the net.

Full Time: Montrose Roselea 2 Thornton Hibs 0

A superb 3 points for the 'Lea which pushes them further up the league and away from the relegation zone. Next week it's cup duties as Roselea host Downfield in the GA Cup.

Roselea: McLeod, Dalgarno, Taylor, Whyte, Thomson, McDowell(Tringham), Anderson, Rae(Campbell), Greig( Collier), Cruickshank, Mowatt
