ROSE TEACH LEA A LESSON

Bonnyrigg Rose 6-1 Montrose Roselea

Scottish Junior Cup 2nd Round

Sat Oct 24th 2015

Roselea bowed out of the Scottish Junior Cup after coming up against a free scoring and admittedly superior opposition in Superleague outfit Bonnyrigg Rose.

Roselea couldn't have made a worse start to the game going three goals down within the opening 10 minutes.

A Nelson free kick was headed home by MOYES to set the home team on their way.

After 7 minutes Gray made a good run down the right wing and found KIDD who headed home at the far post.

The tie was effectively over after 10 minutes when GRAY ran on to a through ball and finished with aplomb.

Roselea did begin to show a little more after the disastrous start but couldn't quite create any clear cut opportunities as Greig up top became more and more isolated as the half progressed.

Bonnyrigg kept up the sustained pressure and added a fourth when Stewart found MCGACHIE to score with another header for Bonnyrigg.

Roselea were a bit unfortunate to concede a fifth just moments later. Ex Airdrie player GRAY tried his luck 30 yards out and the strike took a deflection and looped into the top corner.

It could have been worse were it not for a brave block from Thompson on the line and a superb reflex save from McLeod in goals.

Half time- Bonnyrigg Rose 5 Montrose Roselea 0

Roselea came out for the second half trying to gather some respectability towards the scoreline. With a more attacking philosophy in place set out to press higher up the park their slight tweak resulted in pulling back a goal straight from the whistle. Mowatt showed great determination to win the ball and slipped the ball into GREIG who slid home to give the small travelling crowd something to cheer.

The away team almost got another back when Cruickshank had a shot well saved and as the rebound came back to Greig his effort came crashing back off the crossbar.

McLeod pulled off his second 'Worldie' of the match tipping over a close range shot from McIntosh.

Dalgarno cleared off the line from a Mclaren effort after 70 minutes.

Bonnyrigg got their sixth just after when MCLAREN struck home from close range following another good move down the right.

With 18 minutes to go Roselea made a double substitution putting on their only two fit subs Smith and Campbell for Dalgarno and Taylor.

A much improved second half with plenty of positives to take from the game despite the heavy scoreline. Bonnyrigg will be one of the favourites to lift the trophy and the club would like to thank them for their superb hospitality and wish them luck in the remainder of the competition.
