MONTROSE ROSELEA v DUNDEE VIOLET

McBOOKIE.COM EAST PREMIER LEAGUE

SAT Sept 7th 2013

Although Roselea entered their 6th Premier League game pointless there was still optimism that points could be picked up and the recovery started. Roselea were boosted by the loan signing of Duncan Reid from Forfar Athletic, the 19 year old has first team experience at Station Park and the return of Michael Cruickshank. Birthday boy Jo Reoch was a major doubt for the match and did not feature as did Stuart Richardson who also had to sit it out. Violet with a young squad had made a decent start when compared to Roselea but strangely went down to two late Pumperston goals the previous week. Ex Roselea midfielder Robert Urquhart made a return to Broomfield Park following his transfer to the Glenesk Park side last season.

Roselea: Mcleod, P Taylor, R Taylor, Collier Fletcher, Rae, Anderson, Cruickshank, Dale Reid, Watson & Duncan Reid. Subs: Rausch, Reid, Gammie, Thomson & Riach.

Broomfield Park was in excellent condition and a healthy crowd had assembled with Senior football on the International break.

In 3 minutes Roselea almost replicated Belgiums goal at Hampden the previous night when Reid got to the byeline and cut back to Watson but his shot lacked the accuracy and power of Defour for the Belgians.

Anderson of Roselea committed a late foul on Kelly of Violet in the eight minute and despite a fouled being awarded and the player receiving treatment Anderson escaped without a word in the ear.

Watson had a great chance in 10 minutes when Ryan Taylor playing in a new central defensive role set him away and he tried to steer the ball past the keeper at the near post but missed the target. Anderson then had a decently struck shot held well by Craig in the Violet goal in 14 minutes.

In 21 minutes Dale Reid then looked set to latch on to a high ball into the box as his pace took him away from Gibb but seemed to be looking for the keeper coming out however he stuck to his line and Kelly nipped in to clear.

Violet had their first real shot on goal in 25 minutes when McConnachie and Middleton combined well with the former hitting a low shot which Mcleod handled well.

A foul was awarded to Roselea on the right hand side after a late tackle on Paul Taylor in 28 minutes. Cruickshank sent in a low ball and Watson turned and shot only to see his effort blocked for a corner. From the corner Roselea for the sixth game running opened the scoring. Cruickshank took the corner and some good movement in the penalty area left Calum WATSON unmarked and he headed home from close range.

In 34 minutes Gary Middleton of Violet appeared to be lucky to remain on the pitch after being booked for a late tackle then continuing his argument with the referee and using strong language.

Watson then raced away for Roselea and after cutting in on to his left the shot was over the bar.

Roselea almost let their lead slip in the 43rd minute when following a corner Milton hit a screaming low shot which had Mcleod scrambling to his post to cover.

Half Time: Roselea 1 Violet 0

It was good to see Assistants at Broomfield for the first time this season however Roselea had a great goal correctly ruled off for an offside just two minutes into the second half. Watson flicked the ball round the back of the full back for Fletcher and he sent in a first time cross which Dale Reid finished into the corner of the net.

In 52 minutes Violet had a chance when the unmarked Milton got his head to an Urquhart cross but Mcleod watched the ball over the bar safely.

Two yellow cards were shown to Anderson of Roselea and Ronan of Violet after they tangled the only surprise was the award of a free kick to Violet as Anderson appeared to be impeded as Roselea attacked.

Roselea were looking lively and keen to add to their lead. In 59 minutes Paul Taylor played a ball to the feet of Dale Reid and he flicked the ball on perfectly for the strong run of Anderson who bore in from the right and he almost picked out Duncan Reid at the back post but Kelly intercepted for a corner. When the low corner came in Collier had a half chance but his weak left foot shot was cleared on the line.

Roselea were well on top and deservedly increased their lead with another headed goal from Calum WATSON in 61 minutes. Paul Taylor sent in a deep cross field ball and Watson headed strongly past Craig from 8 yards to send Roselea well on their way to three points.

Violet were feeling a sense of injustice both on and off the park and this boiled over in 63 minutes when Middleton was shown a straight red card for dissent.

Roselea made doubly sure of the points with a third goal in 70 minutes. Watson flicked a header on to Dale REID and his half volley bounced to deceive the keeper and make things very comfy for the home side.

Reid then cut inside before being brought down by Gibb on the edge of the area. Stewart Fletcher bent a curling free kick round the wall and brought out a great save from keeper Craig to keep Violet in with a shout.

Roselea made a substitution after a late tackle on Paul Taylor saw Thomson replace him in 79 minutes.

Before play could resume Violets Samson was shown a second yellow and also took an early bath. Violet were not having a great day and the scorned a chance in 82 minutes when Mcleod palmed a free kick out to Urquhart and he should have at least hit the target from 8 yards but shot wildly over.

Roselea made their final two subs in 85 minutes when Gammie & Rausch replaced Watson & Dale Reid.

Final Score: Montrose Roselea 3 Dundee Violet 0

Roselea finally got their Premier League season off to a start and did so in style with another great performance albeit this time rewarded with a win. It was a great team showing and Violet did not have anything to match them in any department. On this showing and also in all the other matches they have played there will be nothing to stop them rising in what is an extremely open League. The win surprisingly takes Roselea off bottom place with Livingston Utd losing their fifth game after winning on the opening day at Broomfield.

Roselea take a break from League business with an East of Scotland Cup 1st Round tie at Rosyth with a 2.30pm Kick Off. Roselea received a bye in the 1st Round of the Scottish Junior Cup and will now travel to Fauldhouse on Sept 21st in the League. Roselea have no fixture yet for the 5th October but have a run of three home league matches with Oakley on Sept 28th, Glenrothes on Oct 12th and Arniston Rangers on Oct 19th. This will be a chance to try and get some more League points on the board. Roselea will also be offering the normal Hospitality packages for all these games.
