MONTROSE ROSELEA v GLENROTHES

McBOOKIE.COM EAST PREMIER LEAGUE

SAT OCT 12th 2013

Roselea entertained Fife side Glenrothes at Broomfield Park searching for another 3 points to help push them up the League. Their prospects were hampered with the fact that central defensive pair Paul Whyte and Stuart Richardson were both absent on holiday. Long term injury victims Jordan Reoch and Stewart Fletcher made the Managers decision even more narrowed. After a fine display in a midweek friendly over Arbroath Vics Jordan Rausch made a start in the middle of midfield.

Glenrothes were sitting mid table with 9 points after a start which saw them win two and draw three of their opening seven games. A win for the home side would help close the gap on them.

Roselea: Mcleod, Riach, R Taylor, Collier, Cruickshank, Anderson, Rae, Rausch, Duncan Reid, Dale Reid & Watson. Subs: P Taylor, Thomson & Brand.

Roselea started the match well and had a great chance in 5 minutes. Watson received a great through ball from Riach and centred for Dale Reid who somehow managed to guide the ball wide from the centre of the goals.

Glenrothes also had a chance in 12 minutes which they should have done better with. Rae was dispossessed in the middle of the pitch and their number 7 skipped a couple of tackles before hitting a weak shot which Mcleod had no problems with. The visitors had another chance in 16 minutes and this time Mcleod had to work to hold the well hit shot.

Roselea were looking the better side and took a deserved lead in 18 minutes. Rae sent a low ball forward and Dale REID picked the ball up just inside the box before beating his man and poking a great finish past the keeper from 10 yards out.

Reid was again in action in 27 minutes when he had a shot blocked then his second effort was saved. Roselea then had a penalty appeal turned down on the half hour mark with Watson claiming a push in the box.

Roselea were playing against the wind and a series of Glenrothes corners tested Mcleod. First he tipped a dangerous ball away from the head of a Glenrothes attacker then he did well to push another header over the bar with the ball heading for the top corner.

Glenrothes were furious with an offside decision given in the 43rd minute when Martin broke away but was adjudged to have started in offside position. Roselea saw out the half and deserved to go in one up at the interval.

Half Time: Montrose Roselea 1 Glenrothes 0

Glenrothes came out with their Managers words still ringing in their ears after the loudest half time outburst heard at Roselea for a long time. This did not seem to help their cause as they fell further behind in 46 minutes. Cruickshank was allowed space to advance and his low ball into the box saw Dale Reid hook it over his head, onto the bar then when the ball bounced off the line WATSON was first to react and slammed home from close range.

Martin of the visitors was looking their liveliest player and he put in a dangerous cross in 48 minutes which Ryan Taylor had to clear with his head.

Glenrothes had their own penalty claim turned down when Mcleod rushed out but he appeared to get the ball before clearing and when the ball came back in number 7 blasted a volley over the bar in 51 minutes.

Roselea had a good chance to increase their lead when Rausch sent in a dangerous free kick which just missed the head of Collier in 66 minutes.

Roselea made a change with Paul Taylor replacing the industrious Rae in 69 minutes.

Roselea needed a third goal to settle the nerves and they had another chance when Dale Reid was brought down right on the centre of the 18 yard box. Collier took the free kick but slammed it into the wall.

There were chances at either end in 74 minutes when first Mcleod gave himself extra work by electing to punch clear however he made up with a good hold on the second effort. At the other end the Glenrothes keeper had an excellent point blank save from Dale Reid to keep them in it.

The last action was in the 75 minute when Celantano got on the end of a great chipped ball from the Glenrothes midfield however Mcleod who was having a great game spotted the danger and came out to smother the ball.

There was to be no last quarter collapse from Roselea this week and they held out well for a great three points.

Full Time: Montrose Roselea 2 Glenrothes 0

This was a fully deserved 3 points for the home side as they never looked in any real danger and also took their chances when they came along. It was a good team display. The win does not pull Roselea out of bottom spot but does haul them back on the tails of the middle pack. Match Sponsors Bunn Fertlisers & Lauras Ladies awarded Calum Watson his Man of the Match award which he fully deserved for his work rate and goal.

Roselea have another home League game and another chance to put points on the board when they face Arniston Rangers at Broomfield again with a 2.30pm Kick Off. Hospitality is available.

Roselea have been drawn away to East Kilbride in the 2nd Round of the Scottish Junior Cup. They are currently bottom of the West 2nd Division but recently appointed ex Cambuslang Rangers Manager Alan Wardlaw who will be looking to improve their current position. Roselea will be running a bus and supporters are welcome to travel. The bus will leave the Golf Inn at approx 10.00am.
