ROSELEA TAKE DERBY HONOURS

BRECHIN VICS v MONTROSE ROSELEA

McBOOKIE.COM NORTH DIVISION

SAT FEB 18th 2012

Roselea made the short journey to Victoria Park to face near neighbours Brechin Vics looking for their first win in 5 games whilst the Vics were keen to forget about the heavy defeat from last week.

Roselea:Mcleod,P.Taylor,R.Taylor,Anderson,Reoch,Whyte,Urquhart,Kennedy,Collier,Aitken,Webster. Subs:Riach, Hood,Fletcher, Rodger, Strachan, Craig, Brand

The game kicked off with the Roselea facing a stiff wind and the awkward low sun but were soon into their rhythm starting strongly with Collier beating two defenders in the box before setting up Aitken who shoots over the bar from 15 yards.

2 minutes later it’s Colliers turn to have a shot at goal and his effort goes narrowly over with the keeper well beaten.

Against the run of play Brechin Vics open the scoring with some slackness from the defence and Ryan YOUNG scores in 12 minutes. Worse was to follow for Roselea 5 minutes later when Vics go 2 up through Charles McKENZIE picking the ball up from a throw and placing the ball beyond McLeod’s grasp and into the far corner of the net.

Roselea are struggling with Robbies kick outs that are sailing over the heads of the Roselea defence and when Mcnaught controls one of these kick outs Paul Whyte brings him done just outside the box in a dangerous position. Whyte is booked and the freekick is well held by Mcleod.

Roselea reply with some strong attacking football and in the 28th minute finally have some joy when COLLIER collects a pass from Anderson runs into the box beating a couple of defenders before shooting past Robbie from an acute angle.

Minutes later Collier and Aitken play a great 1-2 and with Aitken ready to shoot a Vics defender manages to clear the danger.

35 minutes gone and Collier thought he had equalised but his effort is disallowed and is booked for an apparent handball.

Roselea were given a reminder when Mcnaught breaks free but shoots wildly over from 20 yards.

40 minutes gone and again the Roselea thought they had equalised with a freekick from Kennedy reaching Whyte and his great header is well saved by Robbie.

Half Time: Brechin Vics 2 Montrose Roselea 1

Roselea start the second half pressing the Vics defence even further back with Webster and Urquharts runs causing all sorts of problems. Ryan

Taylor is next to throw in a lovely cross and Collier again just fails to connect and is frantically cleared.

Webster is next to try his luck with a great solo run and shoots across the goal with the keeper getting a great touch for a corner.

70 minutes gone and the Roselea thought they had equalised with Urquhart challenging the Vics keeper for a high ball and heading into the net only for it to be chalked off for an infringement on the keeper. A couple of minute later Websters freekick flies past the post from fully 30 yards.

77 minutes gone and Websters corner lands at Fletchers feet who knocks it to Collier and his shot is cleared off the line by a Vics defender.

Kennedy is next to have an effort saved well by the keeper. Then finally with 10 minutes to go Roselea finally equalise with Urquharts through ball landing to COLLIER and he makes no mistake for his second of the game.

It was only going to be a matter of time before the Roselea would grab another and it took just 2 minutes for it to happen.

Kennedys freekick 35 yards out went high into the box with Collier flicking it goalwards and Paul WHYTE making sure it had crossed the line and into the net to give the Roselea the lead for the first time in the game and then held on comfortably till the final whistle.

Final Score: Brechin Vics 2 Montrose Roselea 3

Roselea had the lions share of possession today but conceding 2 early goals made it difficult but well done for the great team spirit and fightback against a gritty Vics side that battled well.

Roseleas next game is at home to Blairgowrie in the McBookie.com North Division. Kick off is 2.15pm.
