MONTROSE ROSELEA v ARNISTON RANGERS

McBOOKIE.COM EAST PREMIER LEAGUE

SAT OCT 19th 2013

Roselea entertained Gorebridge side Arniston Rangers in the East Premier League. Having won the previous week at home to Glenrothes there was an expectation that they could make it another home win. Paul Whyte and Stuart Richardson returned from holiday however Calum Rae was listed as a sub after picking up a groin injury against Glenrothes. Arniston went down 3-2 the previous week at home to Dundee Violet and they started the match one point ahead of Roselea having played one game less. Heavy rain was coming down but the Broomfield surface seemed to be firm enough to handle the atrocious weather.

Roselea: Mcleod, Riach, Whyte, Ryan Taylor, Cruickshank, Anderson, Rausch, Collier, Duncan Reid, Dale Reid & Watson. Subs: Rae, Thomson, P Taylor Brand & Fletcher.

After an even opening with only a booking for Garden of Arniston to note Roselea took the lead in 7 minutes. Calum WATSON appeared to be struggling with an injury but burst into life again when the ball came to him and he cut inside his marker on the left and curled a brilliant low shout around the keeper and in off the post.

Arniston had there first chance in 14 minutes when Kateleza took a short corner which caught Roselea out and Court hit a low shot which Rasuch had to clear off the line. From the corner Callaghan fouled and let Roselea off. In 18 minutes with Roselea claiming for offside, Court found himself in space however his shot was well off target. Arniston were having more of the possession and had chances in 21 minutes and 25 however Roselea stood firm. In 28 minutes Court of Arniston crossed and just when it looked like Mathers would get a free header in Duncan Reid got back to head for a corner. Ross Mcleod had to be quick off his line in 33 minutes when a lobbed ball almost found Aitken but the home keeper held well.

Roselea had two golden chances to increase their lead just before half time came. First Dale Reid cut the ball back to namesake Duncan but he shot wildly over the bar from 12 yards in 43 minutes. Right on time Dale Reid played the ball through and when the defender missed the ball Watson found himself clean through but keeper Rachowski stood up and blocked well.

Half Time: Montrose Roselea 1 Arniston Rangers 0

Roselea made the best start to the second half with a second goal in 47 minutes. Dale Reid played a great ball into WATSON who looked like he had gone too wide with only Reid to square to but he unleashed a great left footed shot past the keeper.

Danger man Watson was causing all the problems and in 55 minutes the away sides task was made all the harder when Burgess was sent off for a last man challenge on him after another great flick from Dale Reid had sent him away.

Roselea looked on easy street in 61 minutes when Reid took a short corner to Craig ANDERSON who took a touch and sent in a great shot with the outside of his right foot and beyond the keeper.

Roselea made a change in 67 minutes with Richardson coming on for Ryan Taylor.

Duncan Reid went on a great cross field run in 74 minutes beating for men and just when he was about to shoot he was brought down on the penalty arc. James Collier took the free kick and his curling effort brought out a great save from Rachowski.

Arniston pulled a goal back with a simple goal in 75 minutes. Kateleza swung in a corner and CALLAGHAN met it with a downward header which Rausch did his best to try and clear off the line.

Straight after the goal Roselea had a chance to put it beyond the reach of Arniston when the Reid-Watson partnership almost struck again with another great save from the keeper keeping the away side in with a chance.

Roselea have made it a habit of losing late goals and in the 80th minute KATELEZA rounded Mcleod and finished despite the best efforts of Richardson in the initial tackle.

Watson had another chance for his hatrick but Rachowski pulled off yet another great save at the near post.

Roselea made another change with Rae replacing Rausch in 85 minutes.

There was a moment of controversy when a ball caught out Arniston and Reid was given offside with Anderson running from his own half to be the man on the through ball. Arniston gave Roselea a scare right at the end when Callaghan crossed and Mathers almost connecting at the far post.

Full Time: Montrose Roselea 3 Arniston Rangers 2

This was another great win for Roselea but they made hard work of finishing off the ten men with a three goal lead behind them. The win takes Roselea off bottom spot and up to fourth bottom spot. Match Sponsors The Golf Inn chose Jordan Rausch as their man of the match. Roselea head to East Kilbride Thistle in the second round of the Scottish Junior Cup. A bus will be running and is expected to leave at 10.00am.
