Big 6th Inning Helps Falcons Prevail

Posted by Ray Evans on Mar 21 2014 at 05:00PM PDT

The Falcons beat the Thoroughbreds from Hialeah 9-2 in a non-district contest Friday night to improve their unbeaten streak to 11-0 which marks the schools best start.

The offense struggled all night,  only managing 5 hits.  Most of the help came from the Hialeah pitching staff due to 9 HBP's.  With the score tied 2-2 in the bottom of the 6th, the Hialeah pitchers had 6 HBP's to help the Falcons to a 5-2 lead.  Oscar "Bui" Rodriguez stepped up to the plate with the bases loaded and 1 out.  He delivered a monster grand slam over the left centerfield fence to make the score 9-2.

Alex Sarmiento started the game and went 3 innings giving up 1 earned run on 3 hits. Gentry Fortuno came in to pitch the 4th, 5th, 6th innings.  Fortuno gave up 1 earned run on 4 hits while striking out 5.  Chris Rodriguez came on to pitch the 7th inning and struck out the side.

The Falcons (11-0, 5-0) take to the road next week when they participate in the week long Sarasota Classic Tournament.
