Big 6th Inning Helps Falcons Prevail
The Falcons beat the Thoroughbreds from Hialeah 9-2 in a non-district contest Friday night to improve their unbeaten streak to 11-0 which marks the schools best start.
The offense struggled all night, only managing 5 hits. Most of the help came from the Hialeah pitching staff due to 9 HBP's. With the score tied 2-2 in the bottom of the 6th, the Hialeah pitchers had 6 HBP's to help the Falcons to a 5-2 lead. Oscar "Bui" Rodriguez stepped up to the plate with the bases loaded and 1 out. He delivered a monster grand slam over the left centerfield fence to make the score 9-2.
Alex Sarmiento started the game and went 3 innings giving up 1 earned run on 3 hits. Gentry Fortuno came in to pitch the 4th, 5th, 6th innings. Fortuno gave up 1 earned run on 4 hits while striking out 5. Chris Rodriguez came on to pitch the 7th inning and struck out the side.
The Falcons (11-0, 5-0) take to the road next week when they participate in the week long Sarasota Classic Tournament.
