4 Falcons land on Florida Sports Writers Association ALL-STATE TEAMS

Shortstop Rolando Gomez and left handed pitcher Corey Witkowski were named 1st TEAM ALL-STATE by the Florida Sports writers association while left handed pitcher R.J. Fondon and 2nd baseman Alejandro Sanchez were named Honorable Mention.

Rolando Gomez capped a sensational high school career as one of Flanagan high schools all-time best offensive players in the schools 12 year history. He earned 1st Team All-State honors for the 2nd time in his career (2006 & 2008) and 2nd Team All-State in 2007. His career numbers of .483 batting average, 28 HR's and 100 RBI are in the top 3 all time at Flanagan. Gomez was named the 2008 Broward County 6A Player of the Year and was an 11th round draft choice for the Anaheim Angels. He has signed a letter of intent to the University of Miami.

Corey Witkowski joins his brother Glenn as a 1st Team All-State selection after posting a 9-2 record, 1.17 ERA and 73 strikeouts. The senior lefthander had a breakout season in 2008 highlighted by a no-hitter against then undefeated JP Taravella in March. He will attend Barry University in the fall on a baseball scholarship.

R.J. Fondon is named honorable mention after a 7-4 season with a 2.85 ERA and 85 strikeouts in 2008. He was 10-1 and a 2nd Team All-State selection in 2007 after leading the Falcons to a berth in the State Final Four for the 3rd straight season. RJ will attend Florida International University on a baseball scholarship.

Alejandro Sanchez is named  honorable mention after a senior season in which he made the switch from shortstop to 2nd base. He responded with a .400 batting average, 2 HR's and 26 RBI. Ali transferred in from Cypress Bay and was a crutial part of the District Championship game against the Lightning going 2 for 3 with a double and driving in 3 runs in the 8-4 win. He will be attending Bethune Cookman University in the fall on a baseball scholarship.
