Posted by Ray Evans on Apr 14 2013 at 05:00PM PDT

A long awaited matchup between two local perenial powers took place Saturday night. The final HSBN game of the week of the season would see the Falcons travel to the Mavericks from Archbishop McCarthy to play a thriller.

The Falcons took a 2-0 lead in the top of the 4th inning when Andres Visbal led of the inning with a HBP.  Ryan Dodge then stepped up to the plate and delivered a 380 ft. bomb to the base of the centerfield fence to bring around Visbal for an RBI.  Dodge went to 3rd on a wild pitch and then scored when Kharlin Sued battled through a 12 pitch at bat to finally drive Dodge in on a groundout to 3rd base.

The Mavericks scored 1 in the bottom of the 4th and were able to tie the game at 2 in the bottom of the 6th inning. The Falcons responded in the top of the 7th when AJ Munoz led off the inning with a walk. What happened next was definitely one of the pivotal moments in the game. With the Mavericks expecting bunt, Andres Rios slashed a 2-1 pitch through the drawn in infield to put runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs. Miguel Presno was then called on to bunt and he placed a perfect bunt down the first base line although they were able to get him out at first.  With runners on 2nd and 3rd and 1 out, Oscar "Bui" Rodriguez stepped in to the batters box and drove a line drive single through the drawn in infield to take the lead, 3-2. Eric Rivera was up next and he hit a ball off the glove of the pitcher for an infield hit for an RBI as another runner crossed the plate to make the score 4-2. Ryan Dodge came up with two outs and a runner on 2nd base and got his second hit of the evening to drive in his 2nd RBI of the night to make the score 5-2.

Gentry Fortuno (7-0) started the evening on the hill and did a great job in taming the Mavericks bats. He pitched 6 innings giving up 2 earned runs while striking out 8 and walking 1 while recording his 7th win of the season. Chris Rodriguez came in to close the door in the bottom of the 7th and had a 1-2-3 inning which included a strikeout to earn his 3rd save of the season.

The Falcons (15-4) will take to the road to play the Park Vista Cobras on Thursday at 7pm.
