Flanagan Outlasts St. Thomas in 8 innings 2-1

Posted by Joe Chacko on Mar 31 2008 at 05:00PM PDT

Flanagan starter RJ Fondon and Raiders starter Danny LoCastro took the mound for their respective teams in the 1st inning and both pitchers left the mound in the 8th inning. For Fondon it was after his 10th strike out of the game, LoCastro on the other hand walked off watching Flanagan(12-6) celebrate the win over St. Thomas(12-7) on Josh Gonzaga's RBI single to centerfield which scored Rolando Gomez from 3rd base.

Both pitchers did a good job limiting the opportunities on offense. Fondon(5-3) scattered 9 hits and allowed the 1 run in the 1st inning. LoCastro(4-1) gave up the game tying run in the 5th inning when Gomez doubled to centerfield plating Collin Martindale. Flanagan won the game when Gomez led off the 8th with a walk, advanced to 2nd on a sacrifice bunt by Ali Sanchez. He went to 3rd on a throwing error by the catcher Adrian Patron and finally scored on the single by Gonzaga. Justin Frias went 2 for 3 for the Falcons with a double and Zach Jackson added 2 hits in the game. Gunnar Dennis went 3 for 3 for the Raiders with 3 singles.

The Falcons will host Miami-Monsignor Pace on Friday night at 6:30.
