Torres and Martindale Sign Baseball Scholarships

Posted by Joe Chacko on Nov 18 2009 at 04:00PM PST

Senior OF/RHP Juan "Pichi" Torres will be attending the University of Northwestern Ohio, while 2nd baseman Collin Martindale will be headed to Rutherford, NJ to play at Felician College.

At UNOH finding local talent as been part of coach Hartman’s road map since his first day in the office, but that hasn’t stopped him from signing players from Florida. With a brand new baseball program Coach Hartman looks to build a solid foundation.

Juan "Pichi" Torres is an OF/RHP from Flanagan High School a program which celebrated back to back state 6A titles in 2005 & 2006. Pichi has been an integral part of Flanagan's continued success beginning in 2007 when he was a freshman.  “We are all dedicated and working hard to achieve the goal of another State Title this year. It is something that will be nice to experience before heading to UNOH next fall. I believe competing in that environment will help me with my transition to college baseball.” Pichi could see early playing time in the OF, but could also be called upon to help the Racers pitching staff. “Pichi showed well at the showcase that I attended back in September. It was evident that he could become a great offensive player for me, but he’s not short off the mound either. I am very excited and thankful to announce Pichi’s signing. He will do special things here on and off the field.” – coach Hartman.

Collin Martindale will be attending Felician College a Division II program in Northern NJ. Martindale has emerged as a solid defensive player over the past 2 seasons to compliment his stellar offensive production. Collin's work ethic and dedication to improving his game is a reflection on his character.  His commitment to excellence is the reason he's earned a scholarship to play baseball at the next level.  Felician's Head Coach, Chris Langan, is excited to have Collin coming up to play for him. " I expect Collin to be able to come right in and challenge for a starting job at 2B next year. Coming from a program such as Flanagan's he will be well prepared and should not miss a beat." - Coach Langan.
