Baby Falcons Sweep Cowboys in Opening Day Doubleheader, 10-0 & 16-1

Posted by Jose Jimenez on Feb 28 2010 at 04:00PM PST

After many months of preparation, the JV Falcons got their season off in grand fashion. The JV squad, led by head coach, Noel Figueroa, and assistant coach, Pete Greenwood, started their season with a doubleheader sweep of district foe, Cooper City Cowboys.

Game 1 started off a little slow, as the Falcons (2-0) led the Cowboys 3-0 going into the bottom half of the 4th. The Falcons would bat around the lineup and take a 7-0 lead. The inning was topped by an Adrian Garces solo HR. The final score would end up 10-0 after 6 innings. Pitchers, Jose Mesa Jr. and Adam Murray, combined for the shutout. Centerfielder, Christian Nelson, made a spectacular catch to save a run, and also threw out a runner at home to thwart the Cowboys only scoring threats.

Game 2 was equally impressive as the JV Falcons would defeat the Cowboys 16-1 in 5 innings. Peter Llerena threw 4 strong innings, only allowing 1 run, and Tyler Neville threw 1 inning, allowing no runs. The offense was led by a Carlos Lopez grand slam in the 3rd inning. Andres Sanchez also added a 2 run double in the 4th.

The Baby Falcons’ next game is Tuesday, March 2, at 6:30 P.M. vs McArthur High.
