Falcons Bats Errupt in District Clash with Western

The Falcons entered their District matchup with Western cousiously. Both teams came in undefeated and with the tight one run win Flanagan had in the last meeting they were well aware of the effort the Wildcats would bring.

Early on it looked like the game would be closely contested as Western(3-1,1-1) escaped the 1st inning giving up just 1 run and taking a 2-1 lead into the bottom of the 3rd inning. The Falcons(5-0,2-0) would send 17 batters to the plate and when the 40 min. half inning was over, Flanagan had scored 12 runs highlighted by Mike Melendez's grand slam HR. The Senior went 3 for 3 with a BB and 6 RBI. He also picked up his 3rd win of the year pitching 4 innings allowing just 2 unearned runs and striking out 2. Andres Sanchez, Ricky Santiago, Matt Figueroa and Robert Collin each had multi-hit games. In the 4th inning Flanagan extended the lead as Sr. Keil Conway blasted a 2 run HR to deep left centerfield followed by Jr. Carlos Lopez's solo shot to rightfield the 1st career varsity HR for each player.

Flanagan will next travel to Everglades on Monday for a 3:45 District game and then play at Stoneman Douglas on Friday at 3:45.
