JV Falcons Split Doubleheader Against St. Thomas Aquinas

Posted by Jose Jimenez on Mar 07 2010 at 04:00PM PST

Playing against a more experienced (only 1 Freshman on the roster) St. Thomas team, the baby Falcons managed a split of their 2 games on Saturday, March 6. The Raiders came into the game unbeaten (3-0), and took a time shortened game 1, 9-7. Falcon miscues led to a 7-1 deficit going into the 3rd, before their comeback would fall short. The game ended on a play at the plate that would have made the score 9-8, with a runner at 2nd, and the Falcon’s hottest hitter, Carlos Lopez coming up. Offensive highlights went to Lopez (1-2, 1 RBI), Andres Sanchez (2-2, 2 RBI, 2 R), Jaden Garcia (2-3, 1 RBI, 2 R), and Rafael Betances (2-2, 2 RBI, 2 R).

Game 2 found the Falcons staring at a 5-1 deficit going into the 3rd inning, before the bats came alive. 6 hits and 6 runs later, the JV squad led 7-5 going into the 4th. The Raiders would put 4 more runs on the board in the 4th, and lead 9-7. The Falcons would tie it back up, 9-9, going into the 5th, and final inning (time, once again, shortened the game). LHP, Adam Murray (2-0) would be called in to stop the Raiders’ potent offense. Murray was helped by CF, Christian Nelson, who threw out a runner at the plate. In the bottom half of the inning, the Falcons recorded 2 quick outs before Rafael Betances (3-3, 3 R) would single. Bases were loaded when Brandon Melendez (2-3, 2 RBI, 1 R) would re-enter the game, and single in Betances to end the game. Final score: Falcons 10, Raiders 9. Jaden Garcia (3-3, 1 RBI, 1 R), Andres Sanchez (2-2, 1 RBI, 1 R) and Carlos Lopez (3-3, 2 RBI, 1 R) also contributed to the offense. The Baby Falcons (4-1) travel to Western on Thursday, 3/11, at 3:45 P.M. for their next game.
