Charles W. Flanagan High School Baseball

The 9th ranked Flanagan Falcons are headed back to Sarasota for a third straight year after a 5-0 shutout of #6 Palm Beach Central in the Regional Finals. RJ Fondon(10-0) was magnificent allowing just 2 hits and 0 runs in the complete game. The offense was led by senior LF Jesse Mesa who had a double and triple with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored in the game. The Falcons jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 1st inning when leadoff hitter Rolando Gomez had a infield hit. He advanced to 2nd on a sacrifice bunt by TJ Foard and then scored on a throwing error by the 1st baseman. In the 3rd inning Jesse Mesa led off with a double to the left centerfield wall and scored on a RBI basehit by Joel Carranza. The Falcons iced the game in the 5th inning when Mesa tripled to left field scoring Chris Connelly and DJ Swatscheno. Mesa would score the final run when TJ Foard singled to left field. The rest of the game was the RJ Fondon show!!! His pitching and stellar defense helped preserve the shutout win. Flanagan advances to the Class 6A State Semifinal on Friday May 18th where they host the DeLand Bulldogs. The State Tournament is held at Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota.
