Baby Falcons Improve to 5-1 Behind Strong Pitching and the Long Ball

Posted by Joe Chacko on Mar 11 2010 at 04:00PM PST

Playing against division opponent, Western High, the JV Falcons jumped out to an early lead with 2 home runs in the first inning. They would never look back. In the top of the 1st inning, Shortstop, Andres Sanchez (2-3, 2 RBI, 2 R, 1 BB), hit a 2 run homer to deep center (360 feet), and RF, Carlos Lopez (2-4, 2 RBI, 1 R ) would follow with a solo shot that traveled just as far over the right field fence. 2ND Baseman, Brandon Melendez (1-2, 2 RBI, 1 R) would add a 2 run double in the 2nd inning to increase the lead to 5-0. Other notables on offense were LF, Jadan Garcia (2-4, 1 R),  and CF, Christian Nelson (2-2, 1 R, HBP).

That would be enough for Falcons starter, Adam Murray (4 IP, 4 H, 3K, 3 BB, 0 ER). The only Western run was unearned. Murray moves to 3-0 this season. Tyler Neville (3 IP, 0 H, 1 K, 1 BB) came in for the final 3 innings and was equally impressive.

Final score: Falcons 6, Western 1. Next up for the Baby Falcons is division opponent, West Broward, on Saturday, 3/13. Game times are 10:00 A.M. & 12:30 P.M..
